MINNEAPOLIS - Rod Carew will rejoin the Twins
organization this week as a member of its executive
staff, the team announced Tuesday.
Carew, who played 12 of his 19 major league seasons
with the Twins, will assist the business department,
working on corporate partnerships, community affairs
and broadcasting. He re-joins Minnesota for the first
time since being traded to the Angels on Feb. 3, 1979.
In his career, Carew had a .328 batting average, won
seven American League batting titles and finished with
3,053 hits. He won his only American League Most
Valuable Player award in 1977 and was elected to the
Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 1991.
He joins former Twins players Harmon Killebrew, Tony
Oliva and Kent Hrbek who work in similar capacities
with the team.
As part of his new role, Carew will make appearances
during the team's 44th Annual Winter Caravan and at
this weekend's TwinsFest.
