Double A
==================================
Mitch Jones knocked in the game-winning run in the
bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Trenton Thunder
over the New Britain Rock Cats, 6-5.
After Anthony Cannizaro and Brian Myrow hit
back-to-back, one-out singles, Jones produced a
run-scoring fielder's choice to snap a 5-5 tie and
propel Trenton to its fourth straight victory. Jones
also produced a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to drive
in Myrow, who finished with three hits and drove in a
run. Cannizaro had two hits, including an RBI single
in the fifth inning, and Aaron Rifkin launched his
10th home run to leadoff the sixth for the Thunder,
who improved to 15-11 in one-run games. Yhency
Brazoban (2-1) picked up the win despite yielding a
run and a hit in 1 2/3 innings.
Terry Tiffee finished with three hits and Josh Rabe
singled in a run in the eighth inning to briefly tie
the score for New Britain, which has dropped three
straight games. Beau Kemp (1-4) surrendered a run and
three hits in 1 2/3 innings to suffer the loss for the
Rock Cats.

Mike Ryan hit a three-run homer to lead the Rochester
Red Wings to a 6-5 victory over the Norfolk Tides.
Ryan's ninth home run of the season capped a five-run
fifth inning which gave Rochester a 6-2 lead. Michael
Restovich and Chad Green each hit a solo homer for the
Red Wings, who played errorfree ball in their sixth
straight game. Carlos Pulido (8-4) allowed three runs
and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win and
Juan Padilla survived a two-run bottom of the ninth to
notch his fourth save.
Marcos Scutaro hit a pair of triples, including an RBI
three-bagger in the ninth inning for Norfolk, which
lost despite having every batter in its lineup hit
safely. Jason Middlebrook (4-6) surrendered six runs

Single A
==================================
The Quad City River Bandits rallied for four runs in
the top of the ninth inning and closed the door in the
bottom of the inning as they defeated the Beloit
Snappers 9-7 on Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field.
Quad City’s Trent Oeltjen and Seth Davidson each had
two-run base hits in the ninth to key the rally for
the Bandits, who snap a season-long six-game losing
streak with the victory.
Trailing 7-5 entering the ninth, Quad City rallied to
even the score. Jose Morales opened the inning with a
single to right-center, and Omar Burgos reached on an
error. After a bunt from Garrett Guzman, Kaulana
Kuhaulua was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Trent
Oeltjen followed by lining a double down the right
field line to even the score, 7-7. Seth Davidson then
pulled a two-run single into shallow center, scoring
two more for a 9-7 lead.
One day after surrendering a two-run lead in the
eighth frame in Quad City’s loss on Saturday, Steve
Murray closed the door for the Bandits on Sunday
afternoon. He opened the inning by striking out
Kennard Bibbs, and then allowed a double down the
right field line by Tony Gwynn. Murray then coaxed a
flyout from Prince Fielder before striking out Jeff
Eure to close out the contest.
The River Bandits took the lead in the top of the
first frame, as Trent Oeltjen opened the frame with a
walk. After Jesus Merchan chopped a single into center
to allow Oeltjen to take third, Danny Matienzo smacked
a single into left for a 1-0 Quad City lead.
Scott Baker, making his third pro start, was nothing
short of dominant in two innings of work. Baker
pitched two perfect innings, striking out three men.
In the bottom of the second inning, Baker blew away
Prince Fielder with a fastball up in the zone for his
second strikeout. He was pulled from the ballgame
following the rain delay.
After the field was cleared, Quad City increased the
lead in the top of the third frame. Seth Davidson
reached second on a throwing error, and scored from
second when Alex Romero singled into center.
But the Snappers got that run back in the bottom of
the third frame, as Pedro Esparragoza led off with a
double into shallow center field. With one out,
Esparragoza broke from second base and, when Chas
Terni bounced to third, Esparragoza kept moving on the
play and scored from second on a groundout.
The Snappers then tied it up at 3-3 in the bottom of
the fourth. Callix Crabbe drew a walk and stole
second. Tony Gwynn hit a bouncer to the pitcher, and
Gerry Oakes threw wild into centerfield, allowing
Crabbe to take third. Alex Romero’s throw to third was
wild, getting into the dugout to allow one run to
score. Prince Fielder followed with a sacrifice fly to
tie the game.
Beloit struck again in the sixth. After Callix Crabbe
drew a leadoff walk, Tony Gwynn split the gap in
right-center for an RBI double and a 4-3 Snappers
edge.
But the Bandits fought back to tie it in the top of
the seventh. With one away, Alex Romero had an infield
single over the head of pitcher Jon Huizinga, and then
took second on a throwing error on the play. With two
outs, Omar Burgos slashed a double into left-center,
scoring Romero for a 4-4 tie.
But Beloit grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the
frame. After Pedro Esparragoza chopped a single into
center, he was bunted to second base. Kennard Bibbs
followed with a dribbler that made its way into
center, allowing Esparragoza to score for the lead.
Gwynn then drove an RBI single into left for a 6-4
advantage.
Quad City tried to come back in the eighth, but the
Bandits rally resulted in just one run. Kaulana
Kuhaulua had a leadoff walk, and Oeltjen reached on an
error at first base. Jesus Merchan followed with a
single into left, scoring Kuhaulua for a 6-5 score.
The Bandits loaded the bases, but Matienzo lined into
a 4-3 double play, and Romero grounded out to end the
threat.
The Snappers added a final run to answer in the bottom
of the inning, as Pedro Esparragoza had a sacrifice
fly to score Travis Hinton.

Phillips' two-run home run in the bottom of the eight
inning stifled any chance the Bristol White Sox had of

victory over the BriSox on Sunday night at Joe O'Brien
Field.
Phillips entered the game with a .418 batting average,
tops in the Appy League. Sunday's blast was his second
