==================================

Kevin West and Joe Mauer each had two RBI as the New
Britain Rock Cats defeated the Binghamton Mets, 8-3.

West gave New Britain a 4-1 lead with a two-run single
in the fourth inning before Mauer added a two-run
double in the ninth. Josh Rabe and Jeff Deardorff each
laced an RBI two-bagger for the Rock Cats, who have
won nine of their last 11 games. Brent Schoening (7-3)
allowed three runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to
pick up the win and Jesse Crain yielded a hit in the
final 3 2/3 scoreless innings to notch his seventh
save.

Mike Jacobs and Rodney Nye each launched a solo homer
for Binghamton. Craig Brazell added an RBI double and
Josh Pressley collected three hits for the Mets, who
dropped to 22-18 this year at Binghamton Municipal
Stadium. Nick Maness (0-1) surrendered four runs --
three earned -- and six hits over 3 1/3 innings to
take the loss.

One night after being shut out, the Fort Myers Miracle
returned the favor shutting out the Daytona Cubs 1-0
Wednesday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Matt Yeatman hurled one of his best performances of
the season going seven shutout innings, allowing just
four hits while walking two and striking out three to
pick up his fourth victory of the season. Recently
called up left-hander Jason Miller tossed the eighth
and Beau Kemp gave up two hits in the ninth, but
closed the door to earn his ninth save of the season.

The Miracle had not scored a run in 15 consecutive
innings coming into play on Wednesday afternoon and it
took them until the sixth before they snapped the
streak. James Tomlin led off with a single to left, to
extend his hitting streak to eight. Jake Mauer then
laid a bunt down that Cubs pitcher Carmen Pignatiello
had trouble fielding and the Miracle had runners on
first and second. Luis Maza then moved the runners
over with a groundball to third. Jason Kubel followed
with an RBI groundout, to score the only run of the
game.

The Quad City River Bandits rallied over the seventh
and eighth innings to tie the Kane County Cougars on
Wednesday night but fell short as the Cougars scored
in the bottom of the eighth to send Quad City to a 7-6
defeat at Elfstrom Stadium. Danny Matienzo and Trent
Oeltjen each extended personal hitting streaks to 11
games in defeat, while Alex Romero was 3-for-4 and has
now hit safely in eight games in a row.

The Bandits trailed 6-3 heading into the seventh
inning, but began a rally against reliever Shawn Kohn.
After Seth Davidson was hit by a pitch, Bryan Kennedy
had a one-out single. Romero then poked a single
through the infield to bring home Davidson, slicing
the deficit to 6-4. Kaulana Kuhaulua came up with a
bloop single into shallow left to load the bases,
before pinch hitter Jose Morales drew a two-out walk
to bring the deficit to one run.

Quad City tied it up on a wild play in the eighth
inning. Jesus Merchan singled and Davidson was hit by
a pitch before Danny Matienzo reached on a bunt to
load the bases. With the bags packed and none out,
Bryan Kennedy chopped a single into left. Merchan
scored and Davidson slid around the tag of John Suomi.
But umpire Jason Dunn ruled that Davidson never
touched home plate, and Davidson was tagged out trying
to return to the plate.

After an hour-long rain delay, relief pitcher Manny
Rodriguez intentionally walked Romero to re-load the
bases, and then coaxed a 4-6-3 double play from
Kuhaulua.

Kevin Cameron came on for the bottom of the eighth
inning, and was touched up for a run. John Baker
opened the inning with a seeing-eye single through the
right side, and pinch runner Marcus McBeth stole
second base. With two away, Jason Basil drilled a
single through the hole on the left side for a 7-6
lead.

Quad City did not threaten against Rodriguez in the
ninth, as he retired the Bandits in order.

The River Bandits Justin Olson was impressive in his
Midwest League debut, facing just eight men over three
scoreless innings. He coaxed a double play and a
strikeout to get out of a bases-loaded, nobody-out
jam, and followed by striking out two more men. In his
final outing for independent Rockford, Olson had
fanned seven over two innings.

Kane County scored first, striking in the bottom of
the second inning, as Kory Wayment had a single to
bring home John Suomi.

But the Bandits answered in the top of the third,
scoring three times to take the lead. Trent Oeltjen
with a double and moved to third on Jesus Merchan’s
groundout. Seth Davidson followed with a single to
left to score Oeltjen to tie the game. After Davidson
swiped second base, Bryan Kennedy drew a two-out walk.
Alex Romero followed by hitting a chopper up the
middle. Second baseman Wayment flipped to second base,
but Kennedy beat the play. Davidson never stopped
moving from second and scored for a 2-1 Quad City
lead. Kaulana Kuhaulua then drilled a groundball,
ruled an error, into left to score Kennedy for a 3-1
Quad City edge.

Kane County scored once in the bottom of the third and
again in the fourth to tie it up. Suomi had an RBI
single and Nelson Cruz drove home run with a
bases-loaded groundout.

The Cougars apparently broke it open in the bottom of
the fifth frame, scoring three times against Josh
Hill. Suomi and Chris Tritle each singled to open the
frame, placing runners at the corners. Wayment bunted
down the third base line. Kuhaulua charged and made a
barehanded pickup, but threw wild to first. Both
baserunners scored for a 5-3 Cougars lead. Hill hit
the next two men to load the bases and was replaced by
Justin Olson. Olson got a double-play from Baker and
struck out Nelson Cruz to end the damage at three
runs.

Hill had his least effective outing as a starter for
Quad City. He allowed six runs on ten hits and went
just four innings.

It only was fitting that Jacque Jones would play the
role of hero.

Jones belted a home run off Billy Koch with one out in
the bottom of the 11th inning, lifting the Minnesota
Twins to a 6-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Entering the contest having lost eight of their last
