Double A
==================================

Craig Brazell hit a two-run homer to lead the
Binghamton Mets to a 2-1 victory over the New Britain
Rock Cats.

Brazell, who leads Binghamton in both home runs (10)
and RBI (43), homered with Chris Basak on second base
and nobody out in the third inning to stake the Mets
to an early 2-0 lead. Basak went 2-for-4 in the game
and Jeff Duncan and Ron Acuna both collected a pair of
hits for Binghamton, which won its third straight.
Tyler Yates (1-0), making just his second start since
being called up from Class A St. Lucie, allowed just
three hits and one walk with four strikeouts over five
innings to pick up the win and Tim Lavigne pitched the
final 2/3 of an inning to notch his eighth save.

Jeff Deardorff was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Terry
Tiffee finished 2-for-4 with a double for New Britain,
which lost for just the second time in its last nine
games. J.D. Durbin (0-1) gave up two runs and 11 hits
in seven innings to take the loss in his second start
with the Rock Cats.

Danny Klassen scored the winning run on an error in
the bottom of the 14th inning to help the Toledo Mud
Hens outlast the Rochester Red Wings, 6-5.

Klassen, who finished the night 2-for-4 with three
walks and a pair of runs scored, walked after Ernie
Young led off the 14th with a single and came home on
a sacrifice bunt by Hiram Bocachica when first baseman
Todd Sears made an errant throw. Carlos Pena went
3-for-6 with a two-run double and Kevin Jordan
finished 3-for-7 with a double and a run scored for
Toledo, which has won nine of its last 14. Eric
Eckenstahler (3-3) yielded a run, two hits and three
walks in three innings to pick up the win.

Mike Ryan, who went 4-for-7 with a double and two RBI,
singled in a run in the top of the 14th to put
Rochester up, 5-4. Rob Bowen was 2-for-6 with a solo
homer that tied the score at 3-3 in the ninth, and
Alex Prieto finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and run
scored for the Red Wings, who lost for just the second
time in their last eight games. Ryan Mills (2-1)
suffered the loss, allowing both batters he faced to
reach base and score.

The River Bandits banged out ten hits but left eight
men on base on Monday night as they were defeated by
the Kane County Cougars 9-6 at Elfstrom Stadium. At
least one run was scored in each of the first seven
innings as Quad City lost a game that took 3:03 to
play, the longest nine-inning game for the Bandits of
the year.

Quad City took the lead in the top of the first. With
one out, Kaulana Kuhaulua hit a sharp groundball to
third that was ruled an error. Seth Davidson followed
with a ground-rule double to left, and Danny Matienzo
had a two-out, two-run single for a 2-0 Bandits lead.

But Kane County scored four times in the bottom half
of the inning. Brant Colamarino had a bases-loaded
single to score the first one, while Scott Tyler
issued bases loaded walks to score two more. After
Tyler left due to injury, Nick Blackburn issued a wild
pitch for a 4-2 Bandits deficit.

Quad City tied it up in the top of the second frame,
as Trent Oeltjen had an RBI single, and Garrett
Guzman, who had singled, scored from third when
Oeltjen was caught in a rundown.

Kane County took the lead back in the bottom of the
third inning. With two outs and men at the corners,
Nick Rogers broke for second base. Bryan Kennedy faked
a throw to second, and attempted to get Brian Stavisky
at third. Kennedy’s throw clipped the runner, and
Stavisky trotted home for a 5-4 lead.

Kane County broke open the game after scoring three
times in the fourth. With one out, Nelson Cruz had a
two-run double into left, and Brant Colamarino had a
two-out single as the Cougar lead ballooned to 8-4.

The Bandits tried to chip away, scoring once in the
fifth and once more in the sixth frame. In the fifth,
Seth Davidson drew a two-out walk and Bryan Kennedy
doubled to right center as Quad City sliced the
deficit to three runs. In the sixth, it was Garrett
Guzman scoring after he doubled, and Kaulana Kuhaulua
reached on a throwing error by shortstop John McCurdy.

But Quad City could get no closer than that, as Shawn
Kohn pitched three innings to pick up the save for the
Cougars.

Nick Blackburn picked up the loss for Quad City, after
allowing four runs (three earned) in 3.1 innings. Erik
Lohse allowed one run in three innings, while Kevin
Cameron pitched a scoreless eighth.
