Double A
==================================

Guillermo Quiroz drove in a pair of key runs in the
top of the eighth inning to lead the New Haven Ravens
past the New Britain Rock Cats, 3-2.

After Shawn Fagan doubled to lead off the eighth and
Dominic Rich was hit by a pitch, Quiroz laced a
two-run double to center field to give New Haven the
lead for good. John Ogiltree (3-2) retired four
batters to pick up the win and Kevin Frederick sat
down five batters to earn his third save for the
Ravens, who improved to 10-5 against New Britain this
season.

Jeff Deardorff singled home a run and added a solo
homer for the Rock Cats, who have dropped four of
their last five. Kevin Hodge retired four batters, but
suffered the loss after giving up a pair of runs and
two hits.

Cody Ross hit a leadoff home run in the top of the
10th inning to lead the Toledo Mud Hens past the
Rochester Red Wings, 4-3.

Ross homered for the second time this week, giving him
nine for the season. Pat Lennon added a solo shot, his
first of the season for Toledo, which has won five of
its last six. Eric Eckenstahler (1-3) struck out the
side in the ninth to pick up the win in relief of Pat
Ahearne, who tossed eight solid frames. Fernando
Rodney, who hasn't allowed a run in his last 12
appearances, pitched a perfect ninth for his 15th
save.

Kevin Connacher hit a solo home run, his first of the
year, and Shane Andrews went 2-for-4 with a double and
a run scored for Rochester, which has dropped four of
its last five. Todd Erdos (2-2), who has a 13.58 ERA
(5 1/3 IP, 8 ER) over his last five outings, gave up
one run and two hits over an inning to take the loss.

No game on on Sunday

Jason Miller and Pat Neshek combined on Quad City’s
fourth shutout of the season—including their third
straight shutout on a Sunday—as the River Bandits
defeated the Peoria Chiefs 2-0 at O’Brien Field on
Sunday. Quad City’s victory combined with Cedar
Rapids’ loss against Burlington means that the River
Bandits finish the first half in fourth place in the
MWL-Western Division. The Bandits won four of their
final five in this weekend series to surge ahead three
places in the standings.

With the game scoreless, Quad City broke through in
the top of the sixth inning. Garrett Guzman led off by
driving a single to center, and was bunted to second
base by Trent Oeltjen. After a wild pitch brought
Guzman to third, Jesus Merchan drove home the first
run of the game with a fly ball to center. Quad City
struck again with two away, as Seth Davidson drove a
double down the first base line. Bryan Kennedy then
bounced a single into center, allowing Davidson to
score for a 2-0 Quad City lead.

Miller pitched 7.1 scoreless innings for Quad City,
the second-longest outing by a Quad City starter this
year. He did not allow a run on four hits, and struck
out five while walking just one. Miller enters the
All-Star Break tied with Erik Lohse for the team lead
with five victories.

Pat Neshek replaced Miller with one out in the bottom
of the eighth inning. With a man at first, he quickly
retired Milko Jaramillo and Matt Lemanczyk. In the
ninth, Neshek hit leadoff man Mike McCoy, but retired
Reid Gorecki, Travis Hanson, and John Santor to close
out another Bandit shutout. Neshek leads Quad City and
ranks third in the MWL with 13 saves this season.

Three times, the Minnesota Twins erased deficits
against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They could not do
it a fourth time.

Alex Cintron singled in the go-ahead run in the top of
the eighth inning as the Diamondbacks outslugged the
Twins, 12-8.

With the game tied, 7-7, Rod Barajas opened the eighth
with a single off reliever LaTroy Hawkins (4-2).
Quinton McCracken dropped a bunt that catcher A.J.
Pierzynski fielded but one-hopped to second. The ball
bounced out of shortstop Cristian Guzman's glove,
allowing both runners to reach safely.

"Everytime they've bunted, it's been perfect,"
Pierzynski said. "That puts pressure on us. I would
throw that to second 100 out of 100 times. The runner
just knocked the ball out (of Guzman's) glove. It was
just an aggressive play by me and by (Barajas). But I
would throw that to second every single time."
