Double A
==================================
Chris Duffy drew a leadoff walk in a six-run sixth
inning and Chris Heintz highlighted the frame with a
two-run double to lead the Altoona Curve to a 7-4
triumph over the New Britain Rock Cats.
Duffy, who is tied for the team lead with 24
base-on-balls this season, was plated with a double by
Brett Roneberg to put his team on the board. Three
batters later, Heintz ripped his fifth double of the
season for a 5-4 lead. Ray Navarrete hit a two-run
single in the sixth inning and added a run-scoring
base hit in the eighth en route to the fourth win in
five games for Altoona.
Mike Johnston (3-1) tossed three hitless frames for
the win in relief of starter Tom Fordham, who failed
to pick up his first win in just his second start this
season. Ryan Owens opened the scoring in the third
inning with a solo homer and added an RBI single in
the fourth for New Britain, which lost for the third
time this season when leading after six innings. Jon
Pridie (2-6) allowed five runs -- four earned -- and
five hits in 6 1/3 innings for the loss.

Triple A
==================================
Jason Phillips tossed eight scoreless innings to lift
the Buffalo Bisons over the Rochester Red Wings, 3-1.
Phillips (7-1) scattered five hits, issued a pair of
base-on-balls and struck out seven to earn his first
win since May 13. Carl Sadler retired the final batter
to pick up his first save for Buffalo, which improved
to 13-4 in two-run contests. Victor Martinez singled
in a run in the sixth inning and Greg LaRocca
connected on a two-run homer in the eighth to give a
3-0 lead to the Bisons.
Michael Restovich homered in the ninth to provide the
only offense for Rochester, which has dropped two of
its last three to fall to five games under .500
(29-34). Adam Johnson (2-8) surrendered a run and six
hits in seven innings to suffer the hard-luck loss,
his fourth in his last five decisions for the Red
Wings.

What else is there to play for after clinching a
division title? How about a place in the record books.
The Fort Myers Miracle tied their 1996 brethren by
winning their 43rd game, defeating the Lakeland Tigers
6-3 Tuesday afternoon at Joker Marchant Stadium. The
1996 team won 43 games in the second half, but fell ½
shy of the playoffs.
The Miracle got on the board in the first inning when
Brett Tamburrino led off the game with a triple and
scored on an RBI groundout from Tommy Watkins. After
the Tigers tied it in the third, the Miracle took the
lead for good in the fifth. Garrett Jones blasted his
seventh homer of the season, a two run shot to put the
Miracle up 3-1. Jones added an RBI single in the
seventh, as did Brett Tamburrino and the Miracle
cruised to the victory.
Matt Yeatman was solid, going five innings allowing
just one run on seven hits, while walking two and
striking out one. Beau Kemp tossed the ninth to earn
his seventh save of the season.

The Lansing Lugnuts followed a four-run sixth inning
from the River Bandits with four runs of their own in
the bottom of the sixth frame as Quad City was
defeated 7-4 on Tuesday night at Oldsmobile Park. The
River Bandits and Lugnuts closed out a series of eight
straight games split between Davenport and Lansing,
splitting their only meetings of the season.
Lansing took the lead with some help in the bottom of
the second inning. After consecutive singles from
Jason Fransz and Donny Hood to open the frame, Jason
Miller retired two men in a row. With two strikes,
Miller threw a pitch in the dirt. Fransz attempted to
swipe third, and Danny Matienzo’s throw went into left
to allow Fransz to score the first run of the game.
After three scoreless innings for each team, Quad City
broke through against starter Yorkin Ferreras in the
sixth inning. Jesus Merchan walked, and Omar Burgos
singled to open the inning. After Matienzo walked to
load the bags, Kaulana Kuhaulua pulled a double down
the left field line, scoring Merchan and Burgos for a
2-1 lead. Alex Romero then stroked a single to center
to score Matienzo. Romero was thrown out at second
base for the first out of the inning, but Jose Morales
followed with a double into left-center to score
Kuhaulua for a 4-1 Quad City lead.
But the lead didn’t last long, as Lansing scored four
times in the bottom of the inning. With one out,
Robinson Chirinos and Buck Coats singled to chase
Miller from the game. Jason Fransz greeted reliever
Kevin Cameron with a two-run double, and Donny Hood
followed with a two-run homer to center for a 5-4 Lugs
lead.
The Lugnuts scored twice more in the bottom of the
eighth, after Jason Fransz singled and Ryan Theriot
doubled with two outs against Steve Murray. With two
on, Nick Collins hit a routine pop on the infield, but
first baseman Omar Burgos couldn’t find it, and two
runs scored on an infield single.
Miller got no decision for Quad City, allowing two
earned runs in 5.1 innings. He struck out two and
walked two.
Cameron picked up his fifth loss of the season, after
allowing two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
Cameron struck out one and did not walk a man as he
dropped to 0-4 on the season.
