Jeff Deardorff hit two solo homers and Josh Rabe added a third as the
New Britain Rock Cats defeated the Altoona Curve, 8-3.

Deardorff hit his fourth homer of the year in the bottom of the first
inning and followed a solo shot by Rabe with his second of the game
in the fourth. Rabe, who is hitting .386 (22-for-57) with five home
runs in 15 games, singled in a run in the first before launching the
first of the back-to-back shots in the fourth. Rob Bowen, who has
a .526 (20-for-38) average over his last 12 games, singled and scored
in the seventh and capped the scoring with a two-run double in the
eighth for New Britain, which has won two in a row after dropping
seven of eight. Brent Schoening (5-3) allowed three runs and nine
hits in 6 2/3 innings, fanning five and walking one to snap a
personal three-game losing streak.

Kevin Nicholson and John Grabow each hit a solo homer for Altoona,
which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Mike Connolly (3-6)
surrendered five runs and seven hits in four frames of work to drop

Chad Green and Shane Andrews each drove in three runs to help the
Rochester Red Wings edge the Buffalo Bisons, 11-10.

Green, who had not driven in a run since May 5, crushed a three-run
homer in the third inning and walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Andrews in the fifth to snap a 5-5 tie. Andrews also had a two-run
double to highlight a five-run ninth frame. Alex Prieto finished with
a pair of run-scoring hits and Michael Restovich knocked in his team-
leading 37th run to cap the scoring for Rochester, which has scored
10 or more runs six times this season. Carlos Pulido (6-3) picked up
the win despite allowing five runs and 10 hits in five innings.

Todd Erdos retired the final batter to pick up his ninth save. Alex
Escobar hit a pair of homers, including a three-run shot in the five-
run ninth to cut the deficit to one-run, and knocked in four runs for
Buffalo. Mark Little, who is 9-for-20 in six games since coming over
from the Diamondbacks organization, had three hits and pair of RBI
and Ricky Guttierrez also had a trio of hits and an RBI for the
Bisons, who have dropped three of their last five games. Jamie Brown
(4-3) surrendered six runs and three hits with five walks in five
innings to suffer the loss.

There was no letdown the day after the Fort Myers Miracle clinched
the division title, defeating the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-1 on Monday
night at Grant Field.

It was a rematch of the same pitching match-up that started the
pivotal six game series between the two teams and once again J.D.
Durbin out-pitched Jesse Harper. Durbin tossed six innings allowing
one unearned run on two hits, while walking four and striking out
three to earn his ninth victory of the season. Harper went 6.1
innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking
out four. He has now lost two games this season, both to the Miracle.

The Miracle trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth, but got an RBI double
from Garrett Jones to tie it up. Jones struck again in the seventh
when he singled in two and the Miracle took the lead for good. They
tacked on two more in the eighth on a two run double from Stephen
Tope. The Miracle are now one win shy of the 1996 team for most wins
in a half. That team finished with 43 victories in the second half of
the season.

The Quad City River Bandits scored once in the eighth and twice more
in the 12th inning as they rallied late to defeat the Lansing
Lugnuts, 5-3, Monday night at Oldsmobile Park. Quad City got a
combined 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball from its bullpen. Erik
Lohse pitched two scoreless frames to nab his fourth consecutive win
and his team-leading fifth win overall.

Trailing by a score of 3-2, the Bandits evened the score in the
eighth inning – with a little help from the Lugnuts. With one out,
Danny Matienzo hit a routine pop into right field. But J.J. Johnson
couldn't find it in the lights, and Matienzo took second on a double.
Bryan Kennedy bounced out to move Matienzo to third, and Kaulana
Kuhaulua lined a grounder past third baseman Robinson Chirinos to
even the score at 3-3.

After Pat Neshek pitched three scoreless innings and Lohse added a
scoreless eleventh, Quad City broke through to take the lead in the
12th. Jesus Merchan led off with a single, and was bunted to second
by Jose Morales. Matienzo followed with a soft line drive down the
right field line, an RBI single to bring home Merchan. Two batters
later, Kuhaulua hit a rope into left, allowing Matienzo to score for
a 5-3 lead.

Lohse allowed a single to start the bottom of the inning, but then
got three straight ground balls to seal the win. Quad City is now 5-3
in extra-inning games this season.

The River Bandits took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as
they needed just two batters to grab the lead. Trent Oeltjen drew a
leadoff walk and immediately swiped second base. He scored on
Merchan's double down the right field line. Merchan then took third
on a Buck Coats error, and came home to score on a passed ball by
Randy Wells.

Lansing scored once without benefit of a hit in the fourth. Scott
Tyler walked two batters and hit a man to load the bases with one
out, and Keith Butler lined a sacrifice fly into right to cut Quad
City's lead in half.

The Lugnuts took the lead in the sixth inning. After Kevin Collins
had a one-out single, Keith Butler and Robinson Chirinos both walked.
With the bases loaded, Peter Tautor replaced Tyler and promptly
struck out Wells. But Johnson followed with a hard-hit groundball to
third. Kuhaulua couldn't make a diving pickup, and the ball trickled
into left for a two-run hit and a 3-2 Lugs lead.

Tyler lasted 5.1 innings for Quad City, getting charged with three
runs on two hits. He walked five and struck out four but picked up no
decision.

Steve Murray went 1.1 innings of perfect baseball for Quad City, and
Neshek allowed just one hit while pitching three scoreless innings.
