Mike Ryan hit a solo homer with one out in the top of the ninth inning to lead
the Rochester Red Wings to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Bisons.

It was the sixth home run of the year for Ryan, who finished the night 2-for-5
and knocked in another run with a single in the fourth. Shane Andrews added a
solo blast and Todd Sears went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Rochester, which has won
four of its last five road games. Ryan Mills (1-0) picked up the win in relief
despite giving up two runs and three hits in just one inning. Todd Erdos pitched
a perfect inning in the ninth for his eighth save of the year.

Mark Little delivered a pinch-hit, two-run single in the eighth inning to tie
the score at 3-3 for Buffalo. Alex Herrera (1-3) gave up one run and three hits
in three innings to take the loss for the Bisons, who have dropped 13 of their
last 17 games.

From the Miracle website:
The Fort Myers Miracle ran into a good pitcher on Saturday night and were
blanked 7-0 at Hammond Stadium by the Dunedin Blue Jays.
Blue Jay starter David Bush was almost un-hittable going seven shutout innings
allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out seven. The bullpen
pitched the final two innings giving up just one hit and striking out one.

The Blue Jays got all the runs they needed in third when Jason Waugh hit a solo
home run off Jeff Randazzo. The Blue Jays would add two in the fourth, one in
the seventh, two in the eighth and one more in the ninth in cruising to the
victory.

Game comments: As Marzan put it "The bullpen has been a bit of a
disappointment."

Randozza has been fighting for control since he got back. I know you have to
pitch the rotation, but I knew we were going to have problems when I saw his
name in the lineup.

Travis started it out with a bit of trouble, but then settled down and pitched
very well for the two innings he was up there. Should have left him in.

Kenny isn't quite the workhorse he was at the start of the season, and gave up
three. Vorwald allowed one run on one hit, giving him 14 runs (9 earned) on 16
hits - the worst run to hit ratio on the team.
The highlight of the game for the Miracle was James Tomlin steal to third.
Unfortunately, the Miracle bats couldn't make it worth anything.

Joe Mauer went 0-3, ending his hitting streak at 19 games. The Miracle still
lead the division by three games over the Blue Jays. They head to Dunedin for
the next two games. Tonight’s game is at 5:00 p.m.
The Miracle send RHP Colby Miller (5-2, 1.98) against Blue Jay RHP Chad Pleiness
(4-3, 2.63).

For the second straight night, Quad City spotted the Lansing Lugnuts a large
lead and couldn’t succeed in a furious comeback attempt as they were defeated
8-4 on Saturday night at Oldsmobile Park. With the defeat, Quad City has
officially been eliminated from the playoff hunt as they trail second-place
Wisconsin by 8.5 games with eight to play.
The Bandits loaded up the bases but couldn’t score in the top of the first
inning, but Lansing responded by putting three runs on the board in the bottom
of the frame. Felix Pie battled Gerry Oakes to draw a leadoff walk, scoring on a
one-out triple from Buck Coats. After Donny Hood walked, Jason Fransz had an RBI
single. Two batters later, J.J. Johnson drove in a run with a single to left for
a 3-0 Lugnuts lead.

The Bandits struck back with two away in the third. Facing a 2-2 count from
Anderson Tavarez, Bryan Kennedy belted a towering fly ball down the right field
line. His hooking drive stayed fair and got over the 30-foot-high wall down the
line to bring the Bandits within two runs. It was Kennedy’s fourth homer of the
year, tying Seth Davidson for the team lead.

But Lansing scored four more times in the fourth inning, all charged to Oakes.
Pie walked to open the frame, and Ryan Theriot and Coats had back-to-back
singles to score a run. With one out and two on, Jason Fransz lined a single up
the middle to score another run. Oakes took a glancing blow on Fransz’s single
and left the game in a daze. Oakes was replaced by Kevin Cameron, who allowed a
two-run single to Keith Butler for a 7-1 Lugnuts lead.

Quad City fought back, as Garrett Guzman doubled and scored in the fifth. In the
sixth, Guzman had an infield single to bring home Danny Matienzo, who had
singled to open the frame.

Oakes struggled in picking up his third loss of the year for Quad City. Before
leaving the game, Oakes allowed seven runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings. He
walked six and struck out one as he had a personal two-game winning streak
snapped.

Cameron recovered well from a rough start to his fifteenth outing of the season.
Cameron officially lasted 2.2 frames, allowing no runs on one hits. He struck
out four for Quad City while walking three.

Peter Tautor fared well but allowed a run in two innings of work. Buck Coats had
an infield single in the eighth inning, stole second and third, and scored on a
sacrifice fly from Fransz.

Johan Santana's first inning nearly was a disaster. The rest of his night
nearly was perfect.

Santana allowed just one run in a season-high six innings and Jacque Jones hit a
pair of solo homers as the Minnesota Twins posted a 6-2 victory over the San
Diego Padres.

Jones opened the game with his 20th career leadoff homer to give the Twins a
lead that Santana almost gave away immediately. After allowing a leadoff single
to Gary Matthews Jr., Santana uncorked a wild pitch and walked Mark Loretta.

But Santana (3-1) got Rondell White to hit into a double play - the first of
eight straight batters he retired. He allowed just two hits after the first
inning, allowing a solo homer to Loretta in the sixth.

"We got a nice performance out of our starting pitcher today," Twins manager Ron
Gardenhire said. "Santana was very good, it was big. We know he can do those
things for us. Big lift for your baseball team when he can go out and do what he
did."
