Hi Dot,
I work with a friend, whose running technique is so close to racewalking. All he has to do, is land his feet more underneath his body and he is racewalking. When I ran, I used to do what I called, small-step jogging. When I get walking fast, I get up in the same walking mode. So, there are ways to cheat in this sport and not get caught. Let me know what you think.

Hi all-just a brief question/comment: I participated in the
Narragansett Lions Club 10 mile road race this past Friday. There is
a separate timed walk division. I placed 2nd overall. The comment I
have is this: the woman who came in first did not walk; she looked as
though she lifted both feet throughout the race. I even said to her
as she passed me that she was running. After the race, numerous
people came up to me and wanted to know if I got beaten by the woman
who ran. They then went on to say that several people had written to
the race director last year about this same woman/same problem.
Nothing was done to resolve this. Any idea how to approach this? I
don't want it to seem like sour grapes. I really enjoyed the race and
the large turnout of walkers(491). People were really trying hard and
it seems so unfair that no matter how hard you try next year, you'll
never be able to compete with someone who is running! Also it makes
me wonder if others will star running to compete. Any thoughts?
Dot
