Sheila,
Thank you so much for writing and sharing
your experience!
Your words helped me appreciate that this
injury can take a while to heal.
I am starting to believe that it is
actually improving so maybe I will be back on the track this summer.
I wish you the best in dealing with your
more serious issue.
Best regards,

Update
Hi John,
I am sorry to hear you are suffering from capsulitis.I had
the same diagnosis two years ago after the long training for the Disney
marathon. My entire foot was so swollen I could barely put a sneaker on.The
doctor put me in a boot cast to make sure I didn't try walking on it for
months. It took a really long time for the foot to get better. Both the
podiatrist and the orthopedic doc kept referring to my swollen toes as "sausage
digits".
I hope you heal up faster than I did although right
after this I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis which is something I
will have to deal with for the rest of my life. With this disease I never know
when the flare-ups will occur and it jumps from joint to joint. I still managed
to finish Disney again in January so don't give up-you'll be back on the track
soon,I'm sure.
Sheila

Bill,
Thanks for the grand prix standings...
Looks like some are off to a good start.
I have been unable to race walk since the 1 hour in October last year. I have been recovering from a foot problem called capsulitus. I have damaged the tissue surrounding the third joint, second toe on the left foot. I would like to know if any other walkers have experienced this problem. It sure is taking a long time to heal. I have not race walked in almost 4 months. It is improving slowly, and it is definitely a repetitive use type of injury so I need to do much more cross training in the future.
Wearing a corrective shoe insert has been the Rx so far.
Hope to see some of you at a race in the future.
Regards,
John Costello

Attached are the Grand Prix point totals for racewalkers after the first two races of the season. The next race in the series will be the New England Indoor Championship 3K at Harvard on Feb. 23. If anyone is unable to open the attachments, give me your address and I'll be glad to snailmail them to you from my office.
