Walking is so new compared to running (circa 500BC, greek games) that there really is no standard for walkers age splits. We do nopt have the statistics. And the walking we are trying to promote is not narrowly confined to one specific niche form ( which looks to be about 1 to 10,000 runners), but rather a form that comes a little closer to the ratios cite don our website. .
So, what really makes sense here? 0 to 50? then 50 to 100?
I HAVE NO FIXED investment in this..the only tthing <i wnat to see happen is being consistent with what we publicly say, and, making sure we will allocate funds for it..

Being 54 currently and having worked out consistently since age 9, I kind of pride myself on being still able to shatter records for those under 19. It is said that 67 pushups is considered excellent for 19 and under. I can beat that easily. For RW, they set some standard at 17:20 for 19 and under as the standard of excellence. No problem beating that and in fact, many in this group easily beat this also. Sorry to sound like a grumpy old type, I have just been beating up 19 year olds for a long time, since I was 14. My wife and I compete in ballroom dancing and even beat these younger, most beautiful types. In other words, don't let age get to you. I would welcome the younger ones to compete. After all, the pressure is on them. It looks worse for a young person to lose to an older person,
not the other way around.

Dave - Did you swallow a little too much chlorine??? Your post made me laugh, but I get and agree with the point: Age groups are always arbitrary, but at least they have been arbitrary in consistent kind of way. To start creating new age group divisions would only serve to make things even more confusing. As Steve said, lets stick to conventional age group breaks, and make life easier all around.
Creating new age group divisions only makes a difference to those on the cusp of the groups. If we are going to go down that road, lets just make every age its own group! OK - let's not...
