I have succeeded in organizing a Walkers section for the big 'Bose" Thanksgiving Day race in Stow, MA. 5k, in conjunction with the race organizers and Stow Board of Recreation. Walkers (of all kinds ) will start first. 'elite' walkers in front.
there will be prizes: M-F, ist, 2nd under 58, and same over 58.
Now we need to get some publicity for NEW, by
1] having NEW have a table there that day...
2] racewalkers showing up (not a judged race, but a referee to watch for any running)
3] additional support form NEW in the form of a second prize, gift certfifcate,. something...
(They are wiating to hear)
I am going to ask for your votes to support disbursement of funds for this and similar projects we are organizing.
It is the only way at present that this organization and its mission can grow.
Please come to this meeting and support what you wnat NEW to do.
also, it would be good if everyone has a 'financial/Bank/ balance Report before July 26. we need to know this as members, (not only practically but also because it is a requirement of any such organization like ours.)

Josef,  Do I read the prize structure correctly, or is this a misprint? What does under and over 58 mean? Are you talking about 58 years old? It seems...
I have been reading all the comments about the mission for NEW. Unfortunately, I will be out of town for July 26 but thought I would add my thoughts even...

Ruth, I am pleased that you mention combining running and racewalking to get thru marathons. Jeff Galloway in Florida has fostered a belief that the proper...
Thanks Richard, I do not approach Marathons with such a specific, timed approach. I am also much slower than you are. However, I do enjoy long distances and ...

Every one can find their own appropriate mix of running and walking. Ruth. Can you tell what your mix is? My only experience is in my last Peace Marathon ...
Richard, I do not have a set mix. I start off with a slow run; will change to RW at about 1 mile, than alternate. I have done more RW than running this past...

Ruth, I think you're taking a great approach. The old-time (olde tyme?) Many of the pedestrain races in the post-US Civil War era were known as...
I meant age 58, only because it seems to me that 55, the usual cut-off makes it harder for the over age 58'ers. I have on occasion lost to someone age 55. ...

First time for me to chime in, but won't be the last. Sorry, 58 makes absolutely zero sense. If walking is going to be added as a division as a "guest", why ...

An outsider's take on all of this... Let's say someone wanted to join the New England Aquatic Club. What if that person didn't know how to swim? I doubt the...
Dave - Did you swallow a little too much chlorine??? Your post made me laugh, but I get and agree with the point: Age groups are always arbitrary, but at least...
Being 54 currently and having worked out consistently since age 9, I kind of pride myself on being still able to shatter records for those under 19. It is said...
Walking is so new compared to running (circa 500BC, greek games) that there really is no standard for walkers age splits. We do nopt have the statistics. And...

All, I just signed up for the SRR 24 hour around the lake race, Wakefield, MA 7/24/09. This will be my 5th start at this race. As I looked at the list of...
Nice catch, Andy, and good luck Bob! I've been on the fence about Wakefield. I've gone twice, and both times the weather has been miserable. And I was sooo ...

We humans constantly devise strange and absurd schemes that attract people, and do not really work or produce anything by way of real health. There was a book...

And exactly who is "we" who say that this "24 hours around the lake" produces nothing by way of real health? Joseph, please if you have nothing good to say,...
I went over to Wakefield yesterday to wish Beth, Bob and Andy well and to see them off at 7 PM on their quest. I will go over this afternoon to provide support...
Here's an excerpt from President Kennedy's address on Sept 12, 1962 at Rice University on the Nation's Space Effort. Although it has nothing to do with health...
I hope they all did well and not hurting very much. I hope to try this some day. A friend and I "walked" up to the lakes region in NH several years ago...
Donald, thanks but... While there is a relay option, we are all (each?) registered for the solo event. Although I don't know that I am up for 24 hours, it just...
Steve, what you say makes sense. The age break at 55 is perfectly okay. By the way, I simply wanted to make one race more competitve for everyone as an...
