One of my fondest memories in race walking was the weekend we spent in
Niagara Falls at the National 10k about 13 years ago. George was part of the
large contingent of NEW members who drove from Boston to Niagara in a van.
On race day, he did the 10k, then joined the group as we did all the tourist
stuff. Must have walked another 10k that afternoon. George, at age 90 kept
up with us every step of the way. Amazing man!

I learned just now that George Conway, who became a record-setting
racewalker when in his 80s and added a bright presence to many of our
events in the 1980s and 1990s, died Sunday at age 103.
