I'm not going. The cost to enter now with a meal is $210, which is
more than double last years fee for the 100. Plus if you enter and
don't cancel several days before the event if you find you can't make
it (or the pass closes down) they keep 100% of your entry fee. It's
not very often that I've entered a ride and not made it (maybe once
due to the old/then truck not starting), but I can't help but think
that the only thing worse than paying that much money to ride around
Ridgecrest is paying that much money to not ride around Ridgecrest. ;-)
Personally, this is my breaking point - where I've decided that a one
day ride, no matter the distance, is just not worth that expense once
you include everything else. If this ride is successful with fees
going up this high that will be great for RM but I fear it will be a
bad precedent for the sport. If all rides start doubling their fees
from a year ago I won't be riding endurance any longer. I understand
some events due to whatever reason can and should charge more but
reasonable increases please.
