We had really good luck with the Uncle Ben's Instant
rice-in-a-bag this weekend at the Lake Sonoma Ride.
This isn't the Minute Rice (which I've also cooked
at rides and isn't bad, just a little bland) or the
Boil-in-a-Bag stuff, this is an orange baggy of pre-
cooked rice (many different flavours - teriyaki, wild
rice, chicken, etc). Just toss it in a saucepan and
it was hot in a minute or so. I chopped up some ham
steaks to go in it (throw that in at the same time)
and it tasted really good (plenty of salt in the rice
and ham, also <g>).
The other good thing about this stuff is it doesn't
need refrigerating and stays good for months, so you
can keep it in your trailer permanently.
(Another thing worth considering, while you're bundled
in your tent - buy a hot water bottle. I took one of
these with me to Death Valley the year it poured with
rain and was so thankful. You just heat up some water
before you go to bed (or sidle up to someone with a
hot water heater and ask them to fill it) and fill the
bottle and hold it against your stomach... mmmmmm. I
found mine in the medical area of WalMart - they were
selling them as "douche bags" complete with an assortment
of alarming looking tubes and hoses which I threw away
(awk). )
