LOOKING FOR A GREAT PRE-HOLIDAY GIFT? HOW ABOUT A VOLLEYBALL CLINIC......

Here is a quick reminder that Olympic Gold Medalist Pat Powers will be
doing on December 20-21 @ The International Sports Center in Cherry
Hill, NJ. Please forward this e-mail to your volley-friends. Have a
great Holiday Season!

Where: International Sports Center (Cherry Hill, NJ)
When: Saturday & Sunday. December 20-21 Saturday 9AM-4PM &
Sunday 9AM-2PM
Ages: Girls & Boys ages 12-18 & Adults
Registration fee: $145
Experience: Novice through advanced. Players are divided up
on three courts one hour into the event. Generally speaking, we have
one court of 12-14 year olds, one court of 15-16 year olds and one court
of advanced girls, boys and adults.

Why is this clinic the best? The "over-correction" teaching method
combined with "Survivor" has the advantage of skill development while
you are playing. These advanced skills are downloaded into the motor
memory through massive repetition while the player is competing in a
non-intimidating environment.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CLINIC

* Learn how to control the ball and power with one simple move when
passing.
* Learn how to use your peripheral vision to set the hitter and not
the ball.
* Learn a proper arm swing and how not to hit where your shoulders are
facing.
* Learn the three critical things we watch when blocking or playing
defense.

The final standings for the $15,000 AVPNext/Wilson Grand Prix are now posted online.

You can link to the standings for your division at http://www.eevb.net/grandprix.htm.

Points were earned at all EEVB, Newport Volleyball Club, Sunshine State Volleyball Assoc., Volleyball Virginia and Northfork Volleyball Association tournaments.

All Standings will become final and on Dec. 1st and the Grand Prix checks will be mailed that day. If you have any questions about your point total or you think there are any errors you must let EEVB know by the end of November. All standings are final on Dec. 1 even if there is an error discovered later. It is the responsibility of each player to make sure that your points are recorded properly.

Many of the names are linked to the AVPNext results page and Individual Player Ranking Pages. If you click on your name it should show all of your results for the 2008 season.

If your result page does not come up you can send in your AVPNext # and we will check on it. All AVPNext #s are available online at http://www.eevb.net/AVPNextMemberlist.htm

And don’t forget to join EEVB at the AVP Winter Nights Tour at Mohegan Sun on Sat Jan. 17, 2009. See the end of this message for details. If we sell over 40 tickets EEVB will be able to hold a clinic in the Mohegan Arena with an AVP Player Saturday afternoon before the tournament.

Entry Procedure:

1.       Download roster and email it to eevb@...:

2.       Call in credit card # to 631-728-0397 and leave it on the answering machine

League Procedures

1.     The first 2 full teams that arrive at the gym play the 1st match of the night. If 2 teams are not ready to play by 6:45 (or 8:45 in the late session), then the 2 teams listed first on the schedule will start playing even if they are shorthanded. The winner of the 2nd game of the first match stays on and plays the game 1 work team. Follow this order throughout the night. All matches will be 2 games played at one time.
All warm-ups must be finished before that time and matches must start at 6:45 or 8:45.

2.     Any team that starts play with 1 female will begin the game minus 3 pts per game; even if the missing female arrives during the game (she can still join in right away). The 3-points can be added anytime during a match if the score keeper forgets to add them at the beginning; even if that ends the game at the point they are added. The 3 point deficit is waived if the team plays with only 3 males and 1 female.

3.     Teams that are short players may pick up to 2 players from the team that is not playing as long as the captain of the competing team agrees. Teams that pick up any extra players will start the game minus 3 pts per game

4.     The most a team can start down is 4 pts.

5.     Rule clarifications:

a.     Let serves are legal. (Play any serve that hits the net)

b.    The backboard is in and any ball that hits it is in play regardless of the trajectory of the ball. The only ball not good is the one that hits the backboard and rebounds over the net without any players touching it. This rule will keep more balls in play.

c.     The ball may not be carried. Referees should call a tighter game than in the past, as this will only make players better.

d.    No point cap, teams must win by 2 pts.

e.     Games are all played to the same amount, no shortening of games if running late.

http://web.avp.com/schedule/winter_tour.jsp

Format of the Hot Winter Nights Tour
Round-robin format set to see exciting competition

Now that summer has come and gone, it is easy to assume that for beach volleyball players it is time to head inside to wait out the winter months. Ironically though, this is exactly how several of the AVP athletes plan on spending their offseason, as they will soon be moving their beach game indoors as part of the AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour. Starting in January, AVP athletes and staff will pack up the beach and head out on a 17-city tour, visiting indoor arenas in various cities throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and Pacific Northwest. Fans at each of the Hot Winter Nights events will be able to escape from the cold winter weather and experience the same beach party atmosphere that is found on the summer tour, all while enjoying the competition of the AVP's top athletes.
The format for the Hot Winter Nights Tour will be different from what is seen on the summertime AVP Crocs Tour, but is sure to provide fans with some extremely exciting and entertaining competition.
Instead of playing in set teams, a round-robin format will be used to determine both a men's and women's individual champion. Each event will showcase four men's and four women's athletes, who will battle it out on the sand to determine the best player on the beach for the night.
Each stop on the tour will start out with pool play, which will feature three matches per gender. Players will rotate partners for each match, allowing each player to team together once. An abbreviated game format will be used for pool play, with each match consisting of one game to 15 points.
At the end of pool play, the two players with the best records will advance to the final where they will square off to determine the night's champion. The player with the best record will have first pick of their partner for the championship match. The final will consist of one game played to 15 points, must win by two.
In its second year, the AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour is guaranteed to bring some heat to the chilly winter months.
The 2009 Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour takes place in January and February of 2009. For a complete 2009 AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour schedule and tickets, click here

Entry Procedure:

1.       Download roster roster and email it to eevb@...:
