Olympic Gold Medalist and the Nation's #1 volleyball skills
instructor, Pat Powers, will conduct a 12-hour volleyball clinic at
the International Sports Center.
Where: International Sports Center, Cherry Hill NJ
When: Saturday & Sunday, December 8-9
Time: 9AM-4PM on Saturday & 9AM-2PM on Sunday
For Who: Junior boys/girls (ages 12-18) and adult players
What about Skill level?
We have fun! One hour into the clinic, participants are assigned an
appropriate court determined by age and skill level. The safety and
comfort level of all players is a primary goal of the clinic.
Typically we have one court of adults, one court of junior girls and
one court of players ages 12-14. Regardless of which court you are
on, all players share the same curriculum. Current skill level is not
an issue.
What Makes VBClincis.com so unique? One word"Survivor!"
I teach skills differently. I will tell you the how and why
beforehand. Then I will over-correct the most common mistake you make
with each skill. Next is a drill with the over-corrections. Playing
Survivor is the most important aspect of the clinic. It is a simple
Queen/King of the court game where we enforce the rules of skill
over-correction. If a player fails to execute the proper technique
while playing, we boot them off the court….and their whole team! Get
back in line and try again!!! It is an extremely effective method of
changing complex skill behavior in a short period of time.
1. Learn why you should backspin a volleyball when passing.
2. Learn how to play defense by watching only the hitter.
3. Learn how to time a set; how to time your hitters.
4. Learn how to develop your peripheral vision when hitting.
5. Learn how to make your float serve dance.
6. Learn how to get into position on defense.
7. Learn the rules of non-verbal communication.
8. Learn the rule of ball control.
9. Juniors: Learn how to position yourself for a college scholarship
10. Learn the game in a non-intimidating environment.
Three fundamental team concepts stressed in the clinic are:
1. Playing the game three seconds into the future.
2. Using peripheral vision.
3. Reacting to bodies instead of the ball.
