Hey everyone,
I have been throwing around an idea for league day and wanted to see
what you guys thought- and since I am proposing it being in Danvers
again people might have some issues with it, but think about the
possible press and how beneficial it could be to the league.
As some of you know we are partly funded by the Danvers Historical
Society and given an original grant from the Essex National Heritage
Commission. Im not really sure how to describe what exactly the
commission is so Ill give you this from their web site
http://www.essexheritage.org/index.html (there is actually a pic of
vintage base ball on their front page- its of Bristol)
"The Essex National Heritage Commission (ENHC) is the non-profit
management organization for the ENHA. The Commission's mission is to
promote and preserve the historic, cultural and natural resources of
the ENHA. The Commission develops public/private partnerships that
support the hundreds of heritage organizations and sites in the
ENHA's thirty-four communities. Bringing together organizations
diverse in size, budget, mission and experience, the ENHC provides a
structure that respects, promotes and sustains regional resources
and works to make those resources integral to residents' lives and
visitors' experiences."
Some of you have participated in the Trails and Sails weekend in
September (its sponsored by the ENHC) and know that it draws a
pretty good crowd. The ENHC has different programs, one being the
Explorers Program, and they have events based on seasonal themes.
The theme for the fall is Civil War. The spring theme is sports and
we are actually having an open scrimmage in which they are promoting
in their newsletter, on brochure cards, and on their web site.
Basically it is reaching a very large audience and I think if we
capitalize on A. the Explorers program and B. the fact that the
Trails and Sails weekend will be two weeks before we have the
potential to get a very large crowd at league day.
Here is what I am thinking as far as league day is concerned- have
it in Danvers and tie it in with the Explores. I also have numerous
contacts with Civil War groups so I could probably also get some
reenactors there as well, making it a fun event that will draw
positive attention to the league.
What do people think?
