I sent an earlier e-mail about meeting with the Mayor of Reno as part of the National Bicycle Greenway Project. That earlier meeting was postponed until this Thursday at 9 am at Virginia Street Plaza (not sure where that is exactly). This year Mayor Cashell will be there.
I will be there, and if any other cyclists could show up, that would be great. Let me know if you can make it.
Mayor Cashell will be giving us a proclamation for the NBG, and it’s a good chance to voice your concerns about safe cycling in Reno.
Also, if someone could forward this info to the Pedalers and AA, that would be great. Maybe let me know if you do.
Big thanks, and hope to see some folks there. Once again, sorry for the short notice. Also, if someone wants to ride a bit afterward, I’d be up for that.

First, sorry for the confusion about the meeting. Between finals, moving, corporate challenge, and losing my internet access, I forgot to send an email while at school on Tuesday. Thanks to all that have been involved over the last year, especially the board members and hardcore volunteers and racers that have allowed for a great year.
Hopefully, I will be leaving tomorrow for the summer to go work in South Dakota. If you are curious, you can google "35267 123rd St, Leola, SD 57456" to see where I will be:) Certainly not Reno! I hope everyone has a great summer of racin and ridin.
Jersey Order
-Marian is going to set up a system on prostores.comthat will allow for a month or more or ordering time.People will use paypal to purchase the items they want. The system will help increase clarity about the prices and the team won’t have to front cash for the entire order. There will be a big window of time to order so that it is easy. The team won’t have to front a bunch of money.Any increase in prices will be minimal. She will be sending an email soon with instructions.
-Chris Carlson is going to look into designing a new jersey with the help of Margaret, Jenny, Eddie and everyone else who will help.Hopefully, we will be coming out with a new look.Tentative ideas included replacing the gray with white, adding some black, and maybe going for a more vibrant blue. We also had some good ideas for the shorts. Chris will be looking for feedback as the summer progresses. If you have any ideas, please email him.
-Jenny and Eddie will be working on a sweatshirt design as I still have a $100 gift
certificate for a local printer.
Fall mtb race: We will be asking for the three earliest dates, except for the weekend of Oct 4 (a couple of us are planning on doing the xterra at tahoe).
Marian and Chris C will be taking care of team pay.
Sky Tavern will be in August and Jake will work on that with the help of Scot.
Scot Ferguson is running the Peavine Challenge and is looking for help as always.
After two years as the president, maybe for the better, maybe for the worse, I have decided that I should not be president for another year. I plan on continuing to be involved with the team, maybe as race director or something like that. I figure that I have put tons of energy into Nevada Cycling over the last three years and it is time for someone else to set the tone and direction.
One last time, I think it is awesome how much work you guys do. Everyone has school and work and their own riding and the amount of work that we do for the cycling community is awesome. I hope everyone is satisfied and proud of the work that they have done.
If you have questions, I would suggest contacting Marian and/or Jake and/or Chris as I have no idea when I will have net email access. You can always call too. I hope you have a great summer! Cody E Deane

Hi Andrew: I
checked and last year there were 15 members. What we've done in the past
is...for the time you guys/gals work the CC Bike event, we calculate as
volunteer time and then use that "value" to offset the Sky Tavern
rental fees (for your bike race at Sky Tavern). It has always been a
win/win that way. We get your help at the race and you get either a
discounted or free use of Sky Tavern.
We also have about
10 volunteers but--because this is a VERY, very (did I mention very) amateur
event and some of the competitors have done very little riding. I just
like to make sure that we have lots of volunteers out on the course that can
call if we have a problem.
Thanks, Suzanna
Last year:
UNR Cycling
ran/worked the CC Mtn. Bike event. 15 members x $12 x 3 hrs = $540 + 1
member $12 x 2hrs = 564.00 labor value.

I
know I already sent out an email about the clean up on Peavine, but I just
wanted to remind everyone again. Last year there was so much trash on Peavine
and we weren’t able to get it all. I know a lot of you know where stashes
of trash are on the mountain. This would be very helpful to have people that
know where the trash is to come out. Also just having more people out there
picking up stuff would be great. Last year it was just Alex and I out there and
we filled up the back of my truck twice with trash. If you have ever said Peavine
has a ton of trash, now is your chance to make a difference. Check out the link
below for more info and I hope to see you out there.
Also if anyone has a cordless sawzall we could borrow for
the day that would be great.
Thanks

We are going to have a meeting this w, dead day, to figure who is going to do what this summer. Location tbd, though I am leaning towards my house (which is starting to get pretty clean!), or some other place like Waldens? Suggestions would be appreciated.
On a related note, since the Corporate Challenge is a big deal and it is the same night as a twilight, email me or Andrew if you are going to be there and we will bring some twilight race tickets since you will be sacrificing an aircenter crit.
I will send an email with the location by tuesday evening.

So far I have the following volunteers for Tuesday May 6th
at 5:15 out at Hidden Valley:
Conner Richard
Marian Jamison
Alex Vanderhoff
Chris Carlson
Scot Ferguson
Jed Colvin
Anthony Kordonowy
Thanks for volunteering and if there is anyone else out
there who wants to help just let me know. Keep in mind that the more volunteers
we get, the more money the team has for other things. Our volunteers are paying
back the city of Reno by volunteering for the event. Lets try and get as many
volunteers as possible so we break even with the city.
Directions:
East
McCarran Blvd to Pembroke, east to Parkway Dr, right to Hidden Valley Park
Be there on Tuesday May 6th at 5:15 pm and check
in with either me (Andrew Valestrino) or Suzanna Stigar (from the City of Reno)
to find out what you will be doing.
As part of a bargain to get a bunch of vehicles moved for the crit, I agreed to forward this email about a summer job with the Nevada Conservation Corps. The NCC works at Tahoe doing restoration work and trail building. Their program is cool, their offices are on campus, and the schedule is roughly 4 days on/3 days off. The guys that run it are super cool (they moved 15 vehicles at 4:30 Friday afternoon after parking services didn't do so). Attached is a flyer for the position. The position is essentially with AmeriCorps so it would probably be resume enhancing. If interested, email "Matt Johnson" mjohnson@... Check it out. If you complete the summer job, they not only pay you but you give an education grant afterwards. Cody

work!!!
Quick note: We are going to have a meeting next w
(dead day) to sort out summer things. I am hopefully
moving on Friday and have no idea as to when I will
return, well sometime in August)
That is what I have to say about last weekend.
Putting on a race has always been a lot of work but
last weekend took the cake by a long shot. I know I
spent about well, about 9+16+14+5=44? on f-m and that
was only a fraction of the man hours for the weekend.
So, if you were out there this weekend, thank you so
much. Sitting in a hot parking lot on the hottest day
of the year dealing with a bunch of uptight aholes
that work in the med school is about as much fun as
cleaning your chain one pin at a time and then putting
back together. So again, if you sacrificed some or
all of your weekend, thanks again, you know who you
are. A special thanks also to the alumni that were
out there.
For me, the biggest bummer of the weekend was the lack
of cooperation between drivers and racers which lead
to some full blown psychotic behavior by north
valley's biggest jackasses. While I was at the
turnaround on Sat and not at the finish, more than one
person suggested that red rock has become invialable
has a rr course. After course marshalling the ttt, I
am tempted to say the same about both red rock and
cold springs. Nevertheless, it was still a successful
weekend and congrats to the big bird for scoring third
in the mb rr. Great job.
And now, a quick few notes.
-Kudos to Marian J for keeping things in persepective.
Apparently there was some bitchin going on during the
wa rr and some woman started wining when she almost
crashed when try to pass in a turn-a-round. As the
group started the second lap, marian forcefully
suggested that everyone chill out and have fun. True
that and way to be:)
-The reason for mc fields became quite apparent this
weekend. While every other field managed the
turnaround on red rock, which I will concede is
difficult, the men's c muscle heads were too busy
trying to drill it on the way out, had their heads
down, failed to notice the a-frame that said
turn-a-round ahead, failed to notice the turnaround
cones, failed to observe me waiving a giant stop sign
in the middle of the road 30' feet after the cone, and
most of them proceeded to blow past me without even
hitting their brakes. Actually, the men's ds did that
as well except I had added cones to block the lane
they were in so they road by the a-frame, by the
turn-around cone, and then weaved through me AND the
cones I had placed in the road.
-The reason for the mc fields became quite apparent
this weekend. Every ttt team negotiated the corner 1
of 2 without problem (that is the corner that takes
your onto the overpass. The course is pretty self
explanatory, since you ride around the lake and take
the only two right corners that you encounter (except
for the freeway on-off ramps). With an a-frame before
corner 1 (on an uphill), a cone on corner 1, and 4
course marshalls after the corner things were
evidentally pretty obvious, except for the men's c
team from the school with the dark blue/yellow jerseys
who stayed at my house. They proceeded to ride past
the a-frame, past the cone, and almost past the
overpass, almost into Eddie holding a sign, make a
last ditch 180 degree corner onto the over-pass where
traffic was being held back for them by the OC, and
then as they came down the overpass past the arrow
pointing them straight, they started to set-up to make
a right turn onto the north-bound off-ramp where I was
standing with a stop sign with traffic backed up like
4 cars deep and a bunch of signs blaring at them DO
NOT ENTER. In any event, one of them crashed as
brakes squealed as they tried to do everything but go
on the straight, uninterupted road in front of them.
So there you have it. Oh yeah, I have another great
story but you have to ask me about this one. It has
to do with Rich Paul and is hilarious, I think. I
also have the notes from the underground (wccc road
trashtalking) which I will bring to the next meeting
which are even more hilarious. Okay, here is a quick
excerpt.
"Most spectacular failed leadout: Stanford Men A 'at
hmm... every race they've tried.' Particularly,
stanford men and women at the ucsb crit. they had it
LINED UP (just ask Chris Carlson), Devin on Parnes'
wheel coming into the finishing stretch. Then Parnes
went and ... Devin sat up? Something happened. It
collapsed like a house of cards in a tornado. The best
wheel of the race was suddenly lame duck central, and
then a brick house on wheels rolls past and tekes the
win. WTF happened? I have no clue."
"Everything went wrong moment: Wyles Vance replacing
his worn out cleats with the wrong kind and racing
UCLA tt in running shoes with an aero helmet."
The best part is, the underground notes are 11 pages
