On Sunday I will be riding hole in the ground trail with some riders from the Folsom breakouts. If you would like to go I will be meeting at the scolaris on Robb dr. and sharlands in west reno at 7 am. I have room for a few bikes and people. If you would like to go but live in the dorms or don't have transportation I can arrange to meet somewhere else closer to school. Just let me know so I know in advance.
My message.
I have room in my car and can pick people up if they want to go.
The only thing that really mucks up Keystone is melting snow. A little rain makes Keystone perfect! If you wait too long after a rain though a slick layer of dirt will form so be careful. The best time to ride after a rain is within the 1st 30 minutes or a few hours after. Scott
I heard a rumor that when it rains in reno that keystone becomes
unrideable... is this true? Because with my native Tahoe instinct I
MUST go ride after every storm (its like a first tracks in snow kind
of thing)...now if this rumor is true I imagine Reno is the same as
Fallon in which case I probably can't afford to go for a ride in Reno...
Now, with that said...I'm probably going to go riding tomorrow morning
in Tahoe anyways...If anyone wants to join me, I'm open to suggestions
of where...otherwise, I'll probably just hit the rim at the top of Mt.
Rose at 9AM, and head over to the flume. Also, it should be pretty
mellow ride since I'm coming off a knee injury...
Also, since its friday...GO DANCE IN THE RAIN!
Cheers

That's the right attitude to take...be a push over and let things continue on there way. That accomplishes a lot.

The hole in the Ground ride will be SUNDAY instead of saturday. I looked at the wrong e-mail from the folsom group. Sorry Jack, I'm not going to be able to make it on sunday.
Here is the correct schedule with a new ride on Saturday.....
On Friday I will be doing a short mountain bike ride in the morning starting at 9 am at Rancho San Rafael Park. If you are interested in riding just meet me there at or before 9 am. I will be in the parking lot at the top of Washington st.(far north end of wash.)
Also on Friday afternoon I will be riding on peavine again. The exact time and meeting place are yet to be determined. It will probably end up being around 4pm Friday at the keystone trail head. If you are interested in going just shoot me an e-mail or give me a call.
On Saturday I will be doing a road ride for anyone who is interested. This ride will leave at 9 am from the Waldens Coffee shop which is located at the corner of mayberry and West Mccarran. This is a road ride.
On Sunday I will be riding hole in the ground trail with some riders from the folsom breakouts. If you would like to go I will be meeting at the scolaris on Robb dr and sharlands in west reno at 7 am. I have room for a few bikes and people. If you would like to go but live in the dorms or don't have transportation I can arrange to meet somewhere else closer to school. Just let me know so I know in advance.
These are all excellent opportunites for new riders to the team to see what type of riding is in the Reno area. Both the Tahoe Meadows and Hole in the Ground are covered in snow in the winter time, so now is the time to ride these trails. Hopefully some new riders come out. Don't be shy, these are not super fast race pace rides.

I will plan on meeting in the Raley's parking lot on the corner of Keystone
and 7th at 9:00am on Sunday. Like Andrew said this is a great ride for some
new comers to the area. It's a great chance to ride a challenging trail
without it being scary. Hope to see you then. By the way I can take three
other people with me.

Does anyone know if we have any large jerseys available from last year? I have a friend who would like to purchase one. Also do we have any grey shirts available? If so, what sizes?
Hello all that have volunteered over the last year, reading this is in your financial interest and reflects your contribution to the team. Attached is the spreadsheet that I used to keep track of your volunteering. It is not the most coherent spreadsheet I have ever compiled but I tried to break it down by event as much as possible. Then, I converted your volunteering hours into $$$$s that can come off of dues and jerseys. This is going to be your chance to review it and see if you think it is correct. If you think that I have missed something (I probably have), email me, explain what you did, and I will correct the mistake (don't worry, I am not trying to screw anybody out of their work hours). Those who volunteered at the Death Ride or District TT (myself, max, and chris c) do not have their hours accounted for on here. These so called $$$ will expire once we have taken care of dues, money owed to the team, and the
jerseys so we can start a new spreadsheet that will take care of the coming year.
We are planning on doing a jersey re-order that will be shipped early in December (I think). If there is something that you want to get special, like a thermal jacket, arm warmers, skin-suit, start thinking about it now. You have to make up your mind by Sept. 24 and we are going to require PRE-PAYMENT on special items. You will probably be able to put any volunteer hours from the fall towards the new stuff. I will bring the Voler catalog/price list to an upcoming meeting. The info is available online as well. Thank you, Cody

I have some thoughts about our race and venue choices. It seems there are 2 main criteria for throwing a race: 1. Maximize the "home track" advantage for team wolfpack, so we can pad some points. 2. Put on the best possible race so that everybody has as much fun as possible.
My thoughts about the race are this. Do we lose some our "home track" advantage by having the race at Sky Tavern? We probably do lose a bit of our advantage, as everybody is very familiar with Peavine. However, with proper organization and coordination I believe that we could have enough "team practices" to get everybody very familiar the venue. We could set up certain meeting times and locations (close to campus for those without vehicles), then load everybody up into a bunch of cars and head up to sky tavern for a few hours. This should provide plenty of practice laps and it also gives us the extra benefit of meeting everybody on the team,
having some sort of organized practices, building team spirit, and of course having fun with everybody while riding bikes. The second part is, which venue is best for the race? The sport is called MOUNTAIN biking, and since we are the only team that is actual near any MOUNTAINS, I think it would be great to hold the race at Sky Tavern. I really do like the peavine venue and think it is great, but if we have a chance to hold the race in the mountains, then I think we should do it. It also allows all the other teams to camp at the venue site, which is part of why the parkfield race is so fun. On a downside, we do have to be very careful about fires and the lodge, but I think that we can manage these items.
Those are my thoughts, for what they are worth (about a nickle). Thanks to everybody (Cody et al) for all their hard work.

Hello all, my name is William and I'm new to the team. I know it's
late, but I will be riding this afternoon up in Keystone Canyon. I
get out of class at 5:30 and will be heading straight to the Keystone
Canyon parking area. I will start my ride promptly at 6 so I can get
a good ride in before it gets dark. If anyone wants to come you are
more than welcome. I will be doing a fairly easy ride for about an
hour and a half, unless it begins to rain. Thanx. William
Hey everyone,
For those of you are going to be in town this weekend, I am going to try and
ride from the meadows again. Last weekend didn't go so well, about three
miles in I noticed my rear shock wasn't holding air. But I have a new shock
and hopefully this weekend I can ride the whole thing. Let me know if any
of you are interested. I was planning to leave Reno at 9:00. Otherwise
have a great weekend!!!

I have run many DH races and have found
that the races that are single run format are safer than the best of 2 run
format.
When you have 2 runs the rider is prone to
take more chances on one of the runs and lot of times resulting in a crash. And
not to be harsh but the carnage of crashes and EMT’s clearing the course
can delay the other races if held on the same day. Also the single run format
gives Nevada Cycling a home court advantage.
A STXC is great race to have on the same
day as the DH and is a great point getter.

Hello All,
SS ride up Keystone, and then do Bacon Strip on the way down. Round about
1-1.5 hours.
Leave at 6 from Keystone Trailhead. Any takers meet there. We will leave at
6 to make sure that we are not stuck out after dark.
Pace: Med. If you want to ride faster, feel free to. If there are some
people that show up, maybe we can split into two groups: a fast and a
medium, or a medium and a slow.
If there are new people interested in riding this is a good intro, and if
you need details, shoot me an email and I will help as much as I can, and
steer you to someone who knows if I cannot help.

First, a couple clarifications. The meeting schedule is not set. I will email a meeting date at the start of next week (right now, we are splilt between W and R) evening. What would people think of doing the first meeting on a Friday night, especially if we have the clothers? I will get a schedule figure by next week and Jeremy will post it on the website.
Second, the part in my email about riding was for T morning only. When I do a similar ride again, I will send it out. Sorry about the lack of clarity.
Third, about our race. This is a chance for your input. The race is Sept. 29-30. We need to have the flyer done by next week for a variety of reasons. Thus, we can make a final decison at the meeting next week. If you don't take the time to read this, don't complain.
-At the Sky Tavern race a couple weeks
ago, no dh riders showed. The race was cancelled and as a result, the city of Reno will let us use Sky Tavern for a day w/o paying (we had two days credit for volunteering at the Corporate Challenge). Also, the city is fine w/ people camping there as long as there are NO FIRES. There are a couple of advantages to using the Sky Tavern for the xc/dh on Sat.
1) all pavement shuttle for dh
2) all racers can camp at the venue
3) we can use the lodge which has bathrooms and running water
4) the xc course is easy to mark. Last year, 6 or 7 people got stuck marking the peavine xc course all day when some volunteers didn't show. It takes 3 people 3 or 4 hours to mark the Sky Tavern course.
5) volunteering and camping. For Sky Tavern, I spent the night in the parking lot and it made it much easier to be getting set-up at 6/7 in the morning. All I had to do was
awake and start functioning. Nothing was forgotten, didn't have to drive, etc. This will help alleviate the problem of being late when volunteering.
The major disadvantage is there really is no place for a second day of racing. Basically, anything can work for a stxc and a sd but we have great stxc/sd courses on Peavine. So I suggest that on Sunday, we host the stxc/sd on Peavine, starting at about 9/9:30 and then do the sd after that. Also, the evenings will be cool but we can go in the lodge.
I would also like to have a non-collegiate xc/dh at Sky Tavern. There are multiple reasons but the major one is, we can get more revenue which is important after the DH fiasco this year.
The dh is another area up for debate. Due to safety concerns, we cannot have dh practice start until after the xc is over, ~12-1. Thus, we have two
options.
1) dh practice from ~12:30-~4 and do a ONE-run format.
2) dh practice from ~12:30-~3 and do a two-run format.
Is there enough time in the day for this or do we have to shorten the practice by an hour, depending on the format. Dhrs, what do you think?
So, we have a couple options.
Option 1: Sky Tavern xc ~9/9:30 and dh using one of the formats above on Sat. Peavine stxc/sd starting ~9:30/10.
Option 2: Sky Tavern xc/dh on Sat and stxc, sd at Sky Tavern w/ not as good of courses.
Option 3: All Peavine. I have no idea why we would do this and am totally opposed, though I maybe over-looking something.
A few other thoughts about the race.
-the Sky Tavern Lodge has to be returned in great shape and I don't want to be up there cleaning some mess on Monday. If we are up there and
somebody from our team or any other team starts being stupid, they will be asked to leave for the weekend.
-it looks like we will have pint glasses for awards, etc. If you have any design thoughts, have them ready since we need to have the design done w/in two weeks.
-Hopefully, Mark Truijo will be up there selling coffee in the morning.
-We are looking into having another club, probably the tri team, cooking a dinner on Sat. night for all the racers. The idea is to have them do the work and keep the money.
Please send any thoughts or suggestions or have them ready for the meeting. Don't hesitate to send it to the listserve so we can get this discussion going. Thanks for reading, Cody
Hi All, Now that some of you have already been to
your first classes, there is no point in delaying any
longer the reality the semester is upon us. For those
who are new, hopefully you will find some helpful
info.
1) Meetings: They are usually on W or R nights. Many
people have told me that they have W night classes. I
would like some feed back, especially from current
officers, as to what nights work. One of the officers
will send a meeting reminder w/ time, location, etc a
day or two before each meeting. While subject to
change, I am thinking that R, Sept 6, will be the
first meeting of the year. Agenda items for the
meeting will include,
-introductions
-2007 UNR mtb race venue and races (very important for
those of you have been involved)
-a discussion about openings for officer positions
-volunteering
-clothes and bottles (hopefully)
-your questions
2) Rides: All members are welcome to use the
listserve to introduce themselves and to send info
about rides. I am going to try and do at least one
ride a week that is open to everyone. This week, it
will be on Peavine mountain (just north of campus) and
we will meet at the parking lot for the softball
fields at 8am. The goal will be to show how the the
trails work, answer questions, etc. To get the
parking lot from campus, go up Virginia Street, past
McCarran Blvd, and take the first left or find Rancho
San Rafeal Park, find the tunnel under McCarran, and
then look for the softball fields on the right. Don't
hesitate to call me for directions at 2086102733. IF
YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RIDES LIKE THESE AND CAN'T MAKE
IT, SEND ME SOME TIMES WHEN YOU CAN RIDE AND MAYBE WE
CAN CHOOSE ANOTHER TIME.
3) UNR Race: Our race is Sept. 29-30. We have a lot
of work to do. There are many ways you can help. For
current team members, we need to choose the courses
and venues asap so we can make a flyer and get our
permit from USA Cycling. I will send an email by
mid-week explaining our options. I want to have this
decided at the end of the first meeting.
4) I have a flyer that I would like to distribute
around town and campus. If you could help, that would
be great. Roy Erickson is going to post some of them
on campus. I will email the flyer to anybody that
wants to help distribute it.
5) That is it for now. There will be more. Cody

Hey everyone,
I'm going to be riding from Tahoe Meadows on Sunday. I will probably ride
from the meadows down to the flume trail and up the back side to the top and
back again. It's about 26 miles. I haven't been riding at all lately so it
will be a pretty slow pace. I was thinking of leaving Reno about 8:30 am.
Let me know if you want to come and maybe we can set up a car pool.

Hello
all. Attached are the STC results. They are in the USA Cycling Excel format so
they are a pain to read. I am sure pete will be posting the results on the RW
website.
Thanks to everyone who showed up to the race. The UNR cycling team appreciates
the support as this is one of the primary fundraisers for the team.
Stay tuned for another Sky Tavern race on September 29th! UNR will be running a
Norba Race along with the collegiate race. Same course, same distances.

Hi All, I am writing to see if anybody is interested
in riding the Tunnel Creek/Flume/Rim trail. Six of us
did it in early July and it was a blast. The trail
starts with a long climb, is flat above lake tahoe,
does another big climb, and then has great single
track for quite a ways. Then you ride down the first
climb which is a fast road with deep, decomposed
granite. There is at least 3000' vertical feet in the
ride.
Though the ride took us 4.5 hours to do with stops, it
is a little better ride for less experienced riders
because all the climbing is in the beginning. There
is some technical single track. I will take some
extra water and food but everyone will be expected to
bring at least two bottles and some food. If you are
interested but not sure if you are up for it, don't
hesitate to contact me and we can talk about it.
It would be good to leave Reno by 9am. If there is
interest, we can talk as a group off the listserve and
figure a meeting place(s). Cody 2086102733

Hello all. Attached are the STC results. They are in the USA Cycling Excel format so they are a pain to read. I am sure pete will be posting the results on the RW website. Thanks to everyone who showed up to the race. The UNR cycling team appreciates the support as this is one of the primary fundraisers for the team. Stay tuned for another Sky Tavern race on September 29th! UNR will be running a Norba Race along with the collegiate race. Same course, same distances. Scott Leland
Hey everyone, I thought I would introduce myself. I've just come UNR
to do my grad work in geophysics from ND and am certainly interested
in local road/mtn biking. I did a little road racing for NDSU as an
undergrad, and a little mountain biking racing but as of late I've
mostly just been riding for fun and taking trips to Moab to play around.
So I'm definitely interested in getting to know the local trails and
group rides. And I'm certainly looking forward to being able to ride
outside without a parka on in January!
Take care, keep the rubber side down

Hi All, This Thurs. and Fri. is the info fair for
incoming freshmen. It will be in the lower quad north
of the business building. Set-up starts at 9:30 and
it ends at 1:00 on both days. Scott L and I will be
there on R doing the Sky Tavern results.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood and can lend
your pretty face for a few hours, that would be great.
Bring a bike as it would be cool if we had at least a
dh sled, an xc bike (obviously the pink epic), and
some road bikes so that we don't give the impression
of being into any one thing. More is better. I will
make up some flyers. Bring Gabe W. if possible with
the stunna shade Smith aviators and an unbuttoned
shirt. Hope to see you there! Cody

Good morning, I figured I would answer this question
for everyone since I am sure others have the same
question. The jerseys were orginally going to be here
in July. The story of why they are not here is long,
boring, and doesn't need to be told at the moment. We
can leave it at, Max had a busy summer with work and
summer school and the jersey order became a time
sink-hole that has been a source of continual
frustration. Max and I will get things figured out
this week and when we have an arrival date, we will
send it to the listserve.
Just so you know, we ordered 25 (1/2 short-1/2
long-sleeve) downhill jerseys. That prevented us from
doing long-sleeved items and as a result, we now be
placing another order some time in October. We will
be taking special orders then as long as people
pre-pay. Cody

Hello All, and especially Max Miller,
I was wondering on the status of the clothing. I had last spoken with Max
about two weeks back, and he said that there was an order pending. I wanted
to see about getting a few jerseys to train/race in, and maybe a skin suit
if one was available.
Also, who can I pay dues to for the upcoming year.
Thanks in advance for everyone's time, and I look forward to hearing from
you soon.
Wayne.
