Hi Katazile
I think it's important to remember that these ladies are adults. Adults
like to contribute to their own learning and I think you need to help
them exercise their minds as well as their bodies.
I would start by getting the team together and working out WHY they are
playing netball. If it's just for a bit of fun and exercise, then don't
get yourself too worried about making the training all about physical
fitness.
If they are A grade players, then, yes, they need to be physically fit.
If they are playing C grade because they're children were playing, then
they would get a lot more out of game skills.
My suggestion is to talk to them after the game, and ASK them what THEY
think they need to work on... and plan training around that. That way
they have some control, and the training is meaningful. Of course, you
would also add in something that you want to work on too (just make sure
you know WHY and you'll be fine).
Another thing is to think about taking a basic skill drill, and building
it into a court play.
For example:
* Strong, Straight Leads to the ball (primary skill)
* Add pivot
* Add pass
* Create court situation from baseline throw in that teaches player to
wait for pivot time to drive forward for pass.
* Add defence
The whole time discus why it works or doesn't work. Reinforce good
work. Correct footwork. Correct passing and timing. etc..
I hope that helps...
