Hi Everyone,
Well it's nearly the start of a new season in Australia and New
Zealand so why don't we share a few thoughts on the types of things
we have done (or plan to do) early in the season.
Here's my first thought:
- nothing beats playing games, both from the players perspective
(especially if they are kids because it's fun) and also from the
coaches perspective because you can see what they need to work on and
get them to concentrate on specific skills in the game.
Rather than just playing a whole match why not try this:
- 5mins games and play about 8 of them, each lot of 5mins players can
totally focus on ONE skill, this can be either an individual skill or
a team focus.
Or the skill could be something you can take stats on so they can
attempt to better their score in the next lot of 5mins.
ie.
5mins - 1 on 1 defence - attempting to intercept the first ball to
their player.
5mins - A well timed straight lead
5mins - Every passer must have 2 options to pass to.
5mins - Every oposition pass must have hands up at 3 feet.
5mins - No two plays can be the same in a row.
5mins - Anything your team is working on.
Anyway see how it goes and why not let everyone here know your
thoughts.
Also remember that if you are looking for new activities to do at
training why not get that new resource to spark up your training
sessions. I've got both books and CD Roms and remember I've got that
new one called 'Netball Training Games' so you can add lots of
excitement to all your training session. There are 40 games for you
to play at training so that's 2 new games each training session for
the season - Your team would love it. Anyway check out
www.cancoach.com.au/netball to see what is available. If you would
like advise on what resources would be best for you please feel free
to email me directly and let me know the age group and standard of
team you coach and the types of things you want.

Have a great season everyone and remember why not share just one idea
to us all of the types of thing you have done at a training season so
we can all keep our sessions full of variety.
Cheers
Gillian
