She has created a bad habit. I have
played with many girls like this. She needs to re-program her body and
mind to throw down court rather than the easy option of cross court. To
help her do this she needs to reprogram her mind first and her body will
automatically follow. At training get her to catch the ball, as it is coming
down court, say out loud ‘pass down court’ or ‘look down’
and then throw the ball down court. She needs to do this at least 50
times at training for a few weeks. You then add a defence to her and she
needs to do the same thing – making sure she always says it out loud
before throwing. After a few weeks she will then find her body has been
reprogrammed and will automatically look and throw down court.
Hope this helps.

Lacking confidence to throw over defender's arms
Hi there,
Is it due to her being a little shorter than most of the defensive players she
is playing against or the players she is passing too are shorter than the
defenders ?
If so, then have the players coming down the court on a lead lead on an angle
(eg 45%) rather than straight. That way they are still coming onto the
ball, but creating the angle and vision for the player needing to pass off the
ball.
If the players leading are covered, they can always lead in one direction then
change to the opposite direction and/or front cut their opposition once they
are in front, this way the defender must pull out otherwise they will contact
the attacking player.
Hope this helps

Subject: [netballcoaching] Lacking confidence to throw over defender's arms
Hi All,
I have a 17/U player who is going backwards in her netball. On
Saturday the rest of the team were working really hard at looking down
the court for their first passing option and moving the ball quickly.
While everyone else was looking towards our goal this player's first
option was always across the court to our back-up player. At 1/2 time I
spoke to this player and she said that she can't see any leads because
of her defender's arms. I'm not 100% convinced this was the problem
but can anyone suggest some drills for us to work on at training and
any tactics that I might be able to suggest to this player.
She obviously has lost confidence in her abilities. And I've had to
make positional changes around this player and this is damaging her
confidence. But the way she is playing has to also be damamging her
confidence.
I'm hoping someone out there can help me.
