RE: [netballcoaching] Blocking the GA

Just to clarify - the shooters can leave the court, and the defence are not allowed to defend them OFF court (they can follow them though) - however, they do not have to let them back on court - and can block them from coming onto the court - as long as they stay on court while doing this.  A player that voluntarily leaves the court to gain a better position doesn't have to be let back on - only one who has left the court to retrieve the ball - and then only from where they left the court.

However, it would definitely take the WD out of the game - and the GA could come back onto an area by screening around the GS.  And although the GD CAN keep your GA off the court - they might not be able to once it's a one on one situation.

Hi Joseph,

If you GA is always coming out for the centre pass you could drop her back and the pass could go to WA, WD or GD. Over here the Shooters can go out of court and come back on where they want.  The defences aren't allowed to stop her coming back on. Also over here when 2 players are defending 1 - we sometimes call it sandwiching- they have to give the other player room to move otherwise they can be pulled up by the umpire.
While they are blocking 1 of your players they are effectively taking out 2 of their's.  This over lap should be seen when you C comes back into play after passing to the WA.
Think the key is to have your team remain calm and play their own game and pass the ball around  until it can be passed into the goal circle.  Also with GD blocking the GA, there is only one defence in the circle.

Hope this helps
Michelle

Hi, this is Joseph in Botswana. I was playing against
a team which mainly defended by blocking my GA. Their
GD and WD blocked her, and when my C had the ball,
their C would pick my WA. How do I beat this set up?

Joseph

One trick is to have your C/WA set up a 'screen' for your GA to go around. And as the others have said - she can start in the circle if she wants, or even use...

Face guarding is when they're looking straight at the player - face to face. A lot of defence think this is a great way to keep up with the person they are...
