WENDY.....With this drill do the 2 girls standing, do they move at all or just stand still and wait for the pass then the girl on the right steps back and the one on the left run towards the thrower or just towards where the pass is going, just trying to picture this one it sounds like a good one.I have under 9's that have been put up to under 11, sect 2. If they had of stayed in under 9's they most likely would of not learnt too much for this is there 2nd year in under 9 and now under 9's have a lot of new teams so I hope and think it was time to move up, but on the other hand they have won 1 game and lost 4 by a fair bit in under 11 I might add. My problem is they are a fairly short team so they have to work really hard to find space and get in front. My daughter actually tries to do tooooo much and I am trying to get her to relax and let the other goaler do some work also.
Another thing they still crowd and cut each other off, I know they are still young but it is something I feel they need to learn to keep concentrating all the way down the court until the goal is scored, I have a couple of girls that are a bit off with the fairies and as soon as the ball is in the goal ring they have a snooze.
What is a good way to teach them to find space and not too cut each other off and make a good lead for the ball.
Regards
Lisa

Hello there,Teach your players to become defencive attacks and what i mean by that is with todays netball all players need to learn how to become defensive attacks when driving into the space to the ball. the girls need to learn when they attack to the ball get their timing right. You can also teach your players to hold their opposition from the front not the back. The player passing the ball can then see who to throw to.One good way of teaching a player how to pass into the space is have 3 players a thrower in middle of a third, 2 players standing side by side on transverse line in front of the thrower . The thrower passes the ball to the player on the right but as the ball gets there that player then steps back and the player on the left steps forward to receive the ball. The first time you do this with the girls you tell the thrower to pass to the player on the right and you tell that player she has to step back as the ball comes to her you dont say anything to the player on the left . Its amazing how all the players then realise where they should be passing toWendy----- Original Message -----From: Dave+AnneSent: Sunday, 13 August 2006 23:05 pmSubject: [netballcoaching] passing drills
Hi allI coach an U11's rep team & we had a tournament on the weekend & the standard of passing was terrible.I guess they were too quick to get rid of the ball & under pressure from tall girls. Even after telling them several times due to the wind keep your passes short.Any suggestions??? Anne
