Re: [netballcoaching] Rule check?

Hi
My understanding of the rule is that the centre can wait a time deemed
appropriate by the umpire, usually it is roughly, walk up to the centre circle,
take a look around and then step in. approx 3-4 seconds. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm just wanting some clarification regarding the start of play following a
goal scored.
My understanding is that the center must step straight into the circle without
delay - caused either by walking around to the rear of the cirlce or waiting
for her other center court players to be behind the transverse lines. I only
have a rule book from 2001 and am not sure if there is another one out since
this edition - but my understanding is that the center cannot wait and must step
straight in - as soon as she steps in the umpire should blow the whistle.

I understand this rule was one of the new ones bought in a few years ago - am
I right? I'd appreciate some clarification from those of you who in the know
much more than me!!

cheers Bebe

Hi Bebe, Yes it is correct that it should be picked as delaying play; but you will find that most umpires will not pick it up unless it happens every centre...

Delaying play is a major infringement and therefore a penalty pass is awarded. Anytime a player deliberately impedes the opposition it is a penalty. Send...
