Hi everyone
The team I coach had a loss on Saturday which meant we said goodbye to the
finals.
The problem as my assistant coach and I see it is with their fight or "ticker".
We started the season on the top of the table and gradually fell down the
ladder. Most games were close with the girls always saying at training "we could
have won that". The other team inevitably fought their way back in the third and
fourth quarters whilst our girls dropped their heads and on occasion threw
tanties (I should mention they are Intermediate 1's - ie 16-19yo's top
division).
They had the skills and most of the team had the desire. And in the games that
they did fight they felt so proud of themselves and yet somehow managed to
forget that lesson/feeling the following week. Short of pulling the girls from
the court that weren't giving it their all and so that I do not run into this
problem again next year, does anyone have any helpful suggestions on how to make
a team/players want it as much as the coaches - and for that matter spectators
do?
Cheers, Kat.
