RE: [netballcoaching] Breaking Forward

Breaking forward is probably one of the most important concepts - and one
that can be incorporated into a number of drills. I tend to coach senior
teams, so my approach is probably a little different - I can reason with
them!

Whatever drill you decide to go with, I'd suggest a simple breaking forward
drill first. I just do one where they break left 45*, Right 45* and then
straight ahead. Make sure they start with the outside foot, and put the big
step at the end with their outside leg. Add a pass.

When Jill McIntosh was up here a few years ago, she did another drill, which
starts with two post players standing side by side, with a gap in between.
Players had to run through the gap to get the pass - and didn't get it until
they were in front of the players. Of course she built on it, so that they
dodged behind one, and front cut the other, and the posts then could close
the gap if they chose.... etc etc etc...

I also tell my players my flatline theory. If you're in hospital, and you
flatline, you're dead. If they break parallel to the transverse lines,
they're flatlining - it's a dead break. Of course, the fact that they're
seniors, and I tell them that learning to break forward will save them a lot
of running always helps... lol..

Subject: [netballcoaching] Breaking Forward

Hi guyz.

Just wondering if anybody had any ideas i could try out on my team of
13/14 year olds.

They r not breaking forward for the ball. They all want to stand
behind their players and pass the ball over the top of the players. To
many passes are getting intercepted by doing this.

Does anybody ahve any ideas i can try to get them to come forward and
use the space rather then dropping back all the time???

Thanks for any help u can provide me
