Re: [netballcoaching] Pre game warmup drills

Suewee

Here are a few drills I like to use as part of a standard warm up before the
game each week. I usually alternate.

1. Use one third of a court with at least 2 girls in each corner. Running into
the centre of the square to receive the pass, you receive from your left, pass
straight ahead and then run to your right. The person who through the previous
pass now runs in and receives from their left, passes straight ahead, and runs
to their right.

Passes need to be out front of the receiver, leads need to be timed so that they
are not waiting for the ball and it switches the mind on. When they are sailing
through I switch direction to that they are receiving from the right, passing
straight ahead and running to their left.

2. Two lines of runners (x) face a passer (p):

x x

x x

x x

x x

p1 p2

The person at the front of the line passes to the "P" in front of them. They
then run on a 45 degree angle to the opposing "P" and receive a pass from them.
Land on outside foot, pivot and pass to the head of the line. Run around and
join the back of that line.

Again passes need to be out front. Concentrate on landing on outside foot and
pivoting. Run on angles of 45 degrees.

3. Set three girls up in a triangle and the remainder are in two lines and are
the runners.

B

A C

X 1 X2

X X

X X

The person at the head of line 1 passes to A and run towards A and behind and
around. X2 Runs straight ahead toward B. X2 receives a pass from A and passes it
to B. B then passes to X1 who passes to C. X2 runs up and around B and comes
back and receives a pass from C. X1 runs around C and back toward line receiving
a final pass from X2 and passes to the head of the X1 line.

This is a great warm up - and all teams I have coached from 12 y.o. through to
opens really enjoy this before the game.

I hope these help!

Kat
