Hi Tracey
I usually think of a theme that I will work on for that training session and
prepare drills around that. My focus or theme might be something like
passing and catching with emphasis on strong leads to the ball. I will start
with a good warm up and usually do a bit of fitness for about 15 to 29
minutes, lets say a fun game that involves lots of quick sprints to team
races that involves more short quick sprints. I will then move to the focus
of the session and start with little movement making sure to fault correct
along the way emphasising the importance of the skill and then gradually
increase the tempo incorporating the skill into movement. Eg the girls may
get a ball between two and do alternate left and right handed passing, this
then progresses to a stationary thrower and a worker driving hard to the
ball. I may then bring in a dodge or 45 angle drive. I may make the worker
do 2 leads etc and bring in a defence. All the time I am emphasising the
importance of pass placement, hard strong passes, 2 hands to the ball,
balance etc. Towards the end of the session I like to do what I call
"putting it all together" I think of a drill that incorporates all that has
been learnt and put it into a team drill, all the while I am constantly
reinforcing what my theme was originally about. I find that the girls are on
the go the entire session using their drinks breaks as drink breaks and not
chat sessions. As long as you know what you want to achieve for that nights
session I think you will remain on track and the girls will respond
positively. Good luck, there are some great netball coaching books out there
that you can pick bits and pieces out of but most importantly I think you
need to plan your session around one or two skills at a time starting with
basics and expanding on the skill making it more complex as the night goes
on.
Happy coaching
Regards Jill

heaps of drills but putting the session into some sort of order is stumping
me, I want to make it interesting and fun, but I keep going off on different
tangents.
