Dear All
You know you check, double check and treble check and still there are a few
things that you miss. My deepest thanks to those of you who have so diligently
come back to me already with feedback. I will ask Ian Smith to load up the
revised version of the draw as soon as he can, but for now the changes are as
follows:-
1.. Event no. 16 - open novice coxed fours - the winner of the second
repechage race 112 goes to race 138 and the second placed crew to race 139
(thanks Debbie for pointing this out).
2.. Event no. 32 - Open J15 A Coxed 4x+ - my mistake I inadvertently left out
a Durham School crew in the event - they go in as crew 365 Durham School BC
(Brown) into race No. 309 which now becomes a straight final between three crews
and not two as previously shown.
3.. Event no. 59 - open J15 B 2x - crew 210 Doncaster SRA (Wilkinson) and 211
Doncaster SRA (Todd) are actually the same crew, so 210 is scratched from the
draw, one goes through from race 113 and two from race 114.
4.. Event 68 - WJ13 2x - the Hollingworth Lake (Thornton) double originally
shown as being in the Open J12 event have been moved into this - my mistake,
this event is now a three boat final.
5.. Event 69 - Open J12 2x - following on from point 4 and having spoken with
Andrew Bryant, is now a straight final between the two chester le street
doubles, one of which is J11, and one crew is a boys crew, the other a girls
crew.
6.. Event no. 71 - Open Elite 1x - again my error - the event now has three
boats in it, the third sculler being Paul Buckworth of Tees RC
7.. Event no. 85 - womens Senior 4 1x - Crew 292 has just scratched - this
leaves four scullers, so a straight final will be held, race no. 318 16:51
If you spot any other little errors or know you are going to have to scratch
please advise ASAP so we can have time to make the changes - all contributes to
a slick day. Update on the boys, a great team of Tees members have taken three
days off work to lay the course, I am told it is beginning to take shape -
fingers crossed the weather rewards them for all their hard work.

Dear All
Hot off the press the provisional draw is now completed. When he gets up this
morning, Ian Smith will be kindly loading it up onto the Tees RC website,
www.teesrowingclub.co.uk . The usual collection of documents covering areas such
as Car Parking, Safety, Steering instructions etc.. diligently prepared by Steve
Vaslet can be found there now. Ian will send out a note to you when the draw is
there.
Due to the size of the draw and the fact that I have work and other rowing
commitments that shall be taking me away for a couple of datys, I have simply
run out of time to contact every club individually to let them know about crews
that I was unable to find matches for, they were far and few between, the two
that spring to mind are the Durham ARC Mixed Senior 2 4+ (sorry guys we did look
to see if Tees could match but balancing racing and the volunteer base for
running the event, this would have been an event too far for us), and the
Berwick Ladies Womens Veteran Novice 4+ - until 23:00 tonight there was an event
but sadly someone couldn't make it at the last minute.
I also know the Durham School BC J15 4x+ are in the A and B event to get the two
races they sought.
We have received a record number of entries, over 360, a big thankyou to you all
- so timing is going to be key to ensure the event runs smoothly. We have
worked hard to ensure that there are 25 minutes between any races where there
are any doublings, I think we have scheduled all well - but if you find any
problems contact me sooner rather than later, but please note that I will not be
accessing e-mails for a couple of days sue to the fact that I have to go away,
therefore if you need to contact me urgently, please use my mobile 07852134221.
Some notices:-
a.. ARA Registration Cards - We have a significant number of qualifying races
and we will be insisting on seeing the ARA cards of all qualifying event
winners, both juniors and seniors. The prize presentation shall not start until
all event winners cards have been clipped, therefore, help everyone by
presenting these as soon as you can after your final.
a.. Empacher Slots. This year thanks to the generosity of a sponsor we will
be using Empacher slot numbers for the first time; you will therefore need to
ensure that your boat has one attached to the bows. Spare slots will not be
available on the day.
a.. Number deposits. A £2 deposit will need to be paid before you can collect
your number. This will be returned when the emapcher number is returned.
See you Saturday.

Dear All,
If you wish to take the RYA level 2 Powerboat course, please contact
Simon White at Castlegate Quay in Stockton. Simon's number is 01642
528688 and his e mail is Simon.White@...
Simon is running a course in early June... this would be an ideal
opportunity for anyone wanting formal launch driving qualifications
to gain one.
Simon can organise courses to suit 3 people but they are always
cheaper if the numbers are higher. Courses can be run during the week
or at weekends,

Dear All
My thanks to all of you who have hit the 22:00 deadline tonight, I have just
finished processing well over 300+ entries, lost count in the end. We are in
for some very exciting racing. I will be spending tomorrow night trying to
match all the crews and will be back in contact with anyone if I either have to
move you or cannot find any event for, so if you do not hear from me either
tomorrow night or Saturday morning assume all is okay.
Living in an allegedly rural area my post takes a while sometimes to find me, so
please check the list below which is a summary of all the clubs I have received
entries from, if you believe you have entered but do not see your club on the
list please get back to me immediately, either I have not received your entry or
I have inadvertently missed you off the list for which I apologise. I am at
work during the day tomorrow and will start the draw in earnest tomorrow night,

Dear All
As the entries begin to come in, one club has pointed out to me that on the
poster, we are offering vet D 2x in Division 2 and Vet Novice 2x in division 3
-on OARA we are only showing Vet C doubles - the poster over-rides OARA, if you
have a similar experience then drop me an e-mail with your entry and we will
sort it out - I don't think there will be many more like this, i susepct it is
unique to some of the veteran events.
The offer to S1 scullers and crews remains open. If there are the entries I
will put on the event.
Remember entries close this Thursday, May 11th.

Dear All.
I have a plea to the group.
While at Durham City Regatta last weeked, it seems that someone picked up my
rather new Oakley Sunglasses from the boating area on the grass near DARC. I
was possibly in a rush to get into a boat and now stupidly, perhaps left them
in sight.
I am hoping that someone has picked them up for me, and is keeping them safe
until they can return them as they were a present from a family member, and
despite being quite helpful when rowing, are rather important to me!
They are the M-Frame series, black frame with a one piece yellow polarized
lense. There a slight marks on the lens themselves, but otherwise they look
new.
If anyone knows their whereabouts, I would love to hear from you.
All the best,
Jason.

Results: Tenth Anniversary Northumbrian Water University B
Convincing wins for Durham University's freshwomen, senior women and senior
men's eights earned them their eighth successive overall title victory in the
tenth anniversary Northumbrian Water University Boat Race today (Sunday 7 May).
Durham upset the form book to retain grip on Boat Race title
Durham's senior men's eight upset the form book to claim honours in the tenth
anniversary Northumbrian Water University Boat Race today (Sunday 7 May).
Newcastle's rowers had entered the competition as firm favourites after a recent
run of excellent form, but Durham, rowing on the Newcastle station, got off to a
strong start, giving their crew, which included three international rowers, a
seemingly unassailable two length advantage from the early stages of the race.
By mid-way, Newcastle's rowers had made up some ground, but their late surge
towards the finish line was not enough to catch their rivals, with Durham
eventually winning by 7 seconds (two lengths).
A delighted Phil Evans, President of Durham University Boat Club, who rowed with
the winning eight, said: 'Newcastle were a bit of an unknown factor, but we were
confident that we had the speed. We wanted to get ahead at an early stage so
that we could push forward and absorb their pressure every time we saw them
coming, and everything went exactly to plan'.
Newcastle University Boat Club President, Henry Pelly, said: 'We didn't start
very well, and we just never managed to get back. We are all really
disappointed'.
The most convincing win of the afternoon belonged to Durham's senior women, who
stormed to a five length victory over an under-strength Newcastle eight.
Some Newcastle pride was regained by Newcastle freshmen, with a two and a
quarter length (10 second) victory, while in the Freshwomen's event, Durham
completed their hat-trick of wins with a one and three-quarter length win over
Newcastle.
Chairman of the Boat Race Executive Committee, Graham Rayner, said: 'We are
genuinely building the success of the Boat Race year on year, and today's event
has been no exception. As ever, the spectacle has attracted a great deal of
support from the public, and fortunately, the crowds seem to have been
undeterred by the poor weather forecast.
'The senior men's result did come as a surprise after the progress that has been
made by Newcastle University Boat Club. Both universities made Newcastle the
favourites going in to the race. We don't know what happened, and it's too soon
to speculate until we have a chance to speak to the rowers and their coach', he
added.
John Cuthbert, Managing Director of event sponsor, Northumbrian Water, said:
'This has been another excellent day. It is clear that the gap between the two
universities is narrowing. The results are getting closer and more exciting each
year, and look set to continue to do so in the future.'
The final results, confirmed by Finish Umpire, Roger Stainforth, were:
Schools' Eights (The Scholars' Trophy, sponsored by Gateshead Council):
Durham St Leonard's School mixed eight, won by four seconds (one length)
Freshwomen's Eights (The Taylor Trophy, sponsored by Northumbrian Water):
Durham University won by seven seconds (one and three-quarter lengths)
Freshmen's Eights: (The Renforth Trophy, sponsored by the Environment Agency):
Newcastle won by 10 seconds (two and a quarter lengths)
Women's VIII (The Chambers Trophy, sponsored by The Journal):
Durham won by 17 seconds (five lengths)
Men's VIII (The Clasper Trophy, sponsored by Northumbrian Water):
Durham won by seven seconds (two lengths)
In the other competitive events of the afternoon, the afternoon belonged to
Newcastle's athletes, who claimed victory in every event, with wins for the
dinghy sailing team, and a resounding 5 goals to nil victory in the canoe polo
competition, in which the teams were competing for the Byzak Trophy.
Newcastle University's canoeists also won the canoe sprint races, with their
relay team Mark Pooleman, Darren Broderick and GB Wild Water Racer, Jamie
Oughton.

Message received from Doncaster Regatta as follows:
"We have had to regretfully cancel Doncaster Regatta on May 20th. The new
clubhouse building is now behind schedule and it will not be finished in
time for the Regatta. Building not the problem, but of course most of the
area is a "building site" and would not be safe to run the event.
We hope to reschedule later in the year."

Hello everyone,
I'm in a bit of a pickle and am looking for anyone who might be able to help
me. Collingwood College in Durham has bought a new VIII from Imperial
College in London and it was brought to Nottingham at BUSA last week. Durham
University was going to bring it up to Durham but couldn't and so the boat
is now stuck there until mid-June. The problem is we really need it a.s.a.p.
Does anyone have a trailer coming back from that direction who thinks they
may be able to help us get the boat back in the near future?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,

Hi All
Just a note to remind that the entries close at 3pm on Sunday 7th. Entries
can be made by OARA, email or by telephone. See the website -
www.bradfordrowing.co.uk <http://www.bradfordrowing.co.uk/> - for all
information.
This is a Primary regatta specifically aimed at the less experienced
athletes and all events are non-qualifying - even for Senior 3, events for
which are being run as invitation to adjoining Regions.
Also to remind that payments cannot be made by OARA because of the discount
system for entering more than one event. Cheques payable to Bradford ARC
please, and sent off to arrive by Wednesday the 10th.
Hope to see you on the 13th.
All the best to anyone racing this weekend.

Dear All
With only 6 days to go to the close of Tees Regatta Entries, I am pleased to
report this year, that barring any unforseen problems, under the guidance and
leadership of Steve Vaslet, the 4 - Lane Regatta Course will be buoyed with a
stakeboat start. The club has listened to feedback over the years about this
area and we have saved up and reinvested monies raised from the event to
continue to develop an environment that provides fair and competitive racing.
Steve has worked hard with an army of volunteers and we are most grateful for
the time and energy Steve and his team have committed to this task.
If you need to speak to me about the regatta, I shall be at Durham Regatta all
weekend. If you leave a message on my answer machine at home please note I am
unlikely to pick it up until after 20:00 so if you need to contact me urgently
send me a text or leave a message on my mobile, note the new number 07852134221.
Best wishes to all at Durham this weekend and to all fellow regatta secretaries
who are preparing for their forthcoming events.

I have just recieved the umpire allocation for Durham City Regatta and there
are only 8 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday!!!
It is not possible to run an event of this size with this quantity of umpires
and unelss more umpires contact me urgently we might well have to cancel
the event, we can not hold a regatta without umpires!!
If you can not umpire please let myself or Peter know why. There should be
no ARA umpires at the boatrace on Sunday if there are not enough to run an
ARA event being held in our region on the same day.
Please give me a ring on 07787 110680 if you can attend.

Hello
The good news is the draw is done, the bad news is that it wont be available on
the internet until much later tonight. Clubs will be emailed the draw and
safety instructions tonight sometime.
Unfortunately I have had no opposition for around 5 crews each day, but there is
a good turn out (254 entries Saturday, 176 Sunday) and 24 qualifying events on
Saturday. Everyone remember to bring your ARA card!
My apologies in advance for any clashes of races, the OARA boat doubling report
doesn't work so have tried as best I can to guess peoples boat shares. I've
also had to remove doubling up from our big events as otherwise the regatta
would be scheduled to finish at 11pm! (Events affected are S4 4+, N4+, WS4 4+,
WN 4+, N1X, N2X plus a few more of the doubles events). We do make every
attempt to accommodate doubling up but we remind competitors that they do so at
their own risk. We are racing from 08:30 til 17:15 Saturday so there is not
much room for any race re-scheduling.
Once the draw is out tonight, can I remind clubs to get payment to me asap to
save time at the weekend.
All numbers for crews without coxes will be available on Friday night at City
Boathouse from around 8pm, coxes will need to be weighed before their first race
in order to get that number.
Thanks again for your support of the event.
Cheers
Megan

As a ladies S2 sculler I am interested to see that Megan Bell is looking for
a race. Sadly I can't make lightweight but I'm also not a high performance
athlete either. I fit what training I can around work and two children.
Plus coaching new starters at Berwick. I got my sculling points before
children but can't regress any lower than 4. I am keen to race in a single
but can't get any opposition. I intend to go to Tees regatta so look
forward to racing all S2 lady scullers with work and child commitments
there. Should we set up yet another category of sculling!!!!!??
