Dear Region,
As a result of an invitation from Kate O'Sullivan, Robin Williams, GB
Lightweight coach has agreed to visit the region and talk at Durham
Amateur Rowing Club on Thursday 6th December at 6.30pm.
Robin has had a glittering career as both an athlete and a coach
having learnt to row at Monmouth School before going on to join the
University of London and winning his international vest in 1981. He
turned to coaching whilst at London RC and was made the Cambridge
Blue Boat Chief Coach in 1995, enjoying an 11 year tenure of the post
and a total of 7 Boat Race wins before moving on to coach GB
lightweights in 2005.
Most recently, he has coached the World Championship coxless four
which won Gold at Munich this year, a feat which left
him "speechless". He is probably the highest profile coach to visit
the region since I have been here (5 years) and I hope that we will
have a very full house to hear Robin speak. There will also be time
for questions.
Entry will be about £3-4 including a small buffet and I will be
passing out more information on the programme in the next few days.
It would be great to have a wide range of clubs represented on the
night and that is why I have passed on a "heads up".
Please mark this day in your diary. I will be passing out information
on tickets this week.
Regards, Rob Cree
ARA Regional Team Leader (North East)
