Mike Windischmann was elected to the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame,
becoming the third member of the 1990 U.S. World Cup team to be
chosen this year.
Windischmann was the only person to receive the necessary 50 percent
in a vote by current members, the Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
Windischmann appeared in 51 games for the U.S. national team from
1984-1990, and was the captain in 1990 when the Americans qualified
for the World Cup for the first time in 40 years.
Two other players from that team, Eric Wynalda and Paul Caligiuri,
were chosen for the Hall of Fame in May after balloting by American
soccer coaches and a national media panel. Women's star Michelle
Akers was elected with Wynalda and Caligiuri.
