Although we decided to postpone tonight's game because of the squall with lightning that hit Cambridge from 5:30-6:15, we did receive some good press coverage.
Also, we just heard from the sports editor at The Metro. They are looking forward to producing a featured article on ultimate.
Tonight's game has been rescheduled for Wedn, July 6th at 7 PM on the Esplanade. We will update the website shortly. This means there will be two games next week with the second game at Tufts at 7:30 on Friday, June 8th. Free skills clinics will start at 6 PM for both games.
p.s. And yes, for those scoring at home, the Red Sox did play tonight in front of thousands of fans who showed up despite the burst of inclement weather. Given their current 9-3 deficit against the Yankees, maybe they should have postponed too. ;-)
<Please forward to your friends, family, colleagues, and teammates>
The best ultimate in town is coming to a stadium near you. For the first Ultimate Showcase 2007 game, we had 200+ fans watching the national-level players compete and they were delighted.
Here's our upcoming schedule.
Friday June 1st at BB&N in Cambridge: Somerville vs Cambridge [Men's Division] Friday June 8th at Tufts: Boston vs Somerville [Men's Division] Wedn June 13th on the Esplanade: Slow White vs. Boston [Mixed Division]
Friday June 22nd at BB&N: Slow White vs Cambridge [Mixed Division] Wedn June 27th on the Esplanade: Cambridge vs Boston [Men's Division] Sunday July 1st at Saunders Stadium [Mixed and Men's Championships]
Hope you can catch the action and win the free prize giveaways from our sponsors. Here's your chance to show your friends, family, and colleagues that top-level ultimate is more exciting than those other sports that people pay lots of money to watch.
More info and directions at www.theultimateshowcase.com. If you haven't seen it yet, don't miss the 2006 highlight video.
Mention "The Ultimate Showcase" at Brine's Sporting Goods and receive a 15% discount on cleats. Ask them to include ultimate as one of the sports on www.brinesports.com
. We are working with other vendors to provide discounts to the Boston ultimate community. Hope to announce those soon.

Ashland Ultimate is pleased to announce it will be hosting a mini
tournament on Thursday May 31st in Ashland, MA, starting at 6:00.
This was originally just a Tri-Valley league tournament, but we are
having trouble getting two teams to confirm.
Four teams will play, two games side by side under the lights at
Ashland Middle School. Then the winners and losers will face off.
This will be for Division 2 teams only.
If you are interested contact Kramer Gibson ASAP at 508-308-7377, or
email at kramer_gibson@...
The following teams are confirmed
for the BUDA Division 2 High School tournament:

The teams with asterisks next to
their names are ones for whom I am holding waivers. Every player must
have a waiver submitted before they can play next week. If you have faxed
the waivers, please provide me with a roster so that we can cross-check the
roster with the names we have in the database.
SCHEDULE
Following is a tentative schedule:
8:30 Captain's
meeting
9:15-10:30 First
round
10:45-12:00 Second
12:15-1:30 third
1:45-3:00 fourth
3:15-4:30 fifth
Format will probably be 4 pools of 4 with two crossover
rounds.
Games will be to 13, with a soft cap at 1:05 after official
start and a hard cap at the official end of the round (pushing it a little, I
know, but would prefer games to go as long as possible).
FOOD
We set the tournament fee at a rock-bottom $25 to make this
as accessible as possible. However, this means there isn’t anything
in the budget for food and the like (which often ends up getting thrown
out). You are responsible for feeding
your own team. We suggest assigning people to bring peanut
butter, jelly, bread, bananas, oranges, etc. for the team in addition to players
bringing their own provisions. We will provide water, but you should
still plan on starting the day with a full water bottle from home.
DIRECTIONS
Games are played at the Mitre Fields in Burlington,
at the corner of Middlesex Turnpike and Bedford St. (Route 62).
If
you are coming from the south, take Rt 128 to Exit 32 in Burlington to get on Rt 3 North. Take Route 3
for one exit and get off at Rt 62. At the end of the ramp make a right on to Rt
62. At the next light, make left into the MITRE complex. Keep on baring right.
You'll come to a parking lot on your left. The fields will be on your right
through some woods. Do NOTPARK on Middlesex
Turnpike or in the merchant lots across Rt 62.
Greetings from Amherst!
1) Just want to let you know that a clip from our NUTC promotional
video is now up at http://www.nutc.net/index.htm
2) If you just want to watch the camper counselor game, you can find
it at
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PVm4lwTrkS4
The video has had over 1300 hits, although I suspect that the kid who
threw the hammer for the campers' only score has watched it more than
500 times!
3) Also, sessions B and D are filling up fast. Sessions A and C
still have plenty of room in them. Deadline for reduced camper fee is
Tuesday, June 5.
4) Campers are signed up so far from all over the U.S., including
Wisconsin and New Mexico for the first time!
5) We also will have some members of the Colombian National Juniors
team joining us as campers this summer.
6) College reps update your info now at the NUTC directory:
http://www.nutc.net/college.cfm
7) Rumor has it that past and present members of NUTC will be making
their team debut as the Declucktors at Poultry Days. Look for the
team in VC jerseys with a mother hen on the front.
That's all for now! Please pass this on to any high school player who
may be interested.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi all,
[apologies to those of you who are receiving this email multiple times]
On Thursday May 24 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM I will be hosting a meeting
at my house in Amherst to talk about Ultimate.
The meeting is one of a series of public forums called 'Ultimate
Revolution' sponsored by the Ultimate Players Association (UPA) to
discuss the current and future status of Ultimate Frisbee. We will
discuss such topics as spirit of the game, self officiating, and the
credibility and legitimacy of the sport.
This email is an invitation. If you are interested in participating in
the forum, please reply to me at <ultimate@...> as soon as
possible. I will then reply to you to confirm your attendance. If I
get more replies than will fit in my living room I will choose a smaller
group from those who are interested, and I will let you know if you are
not needed to attend. I am looking for a cross section of attendees,
including but not limited to the following:
middle school or high school player
parent of a player at any level
less-competitive player at high school, college, or club level
more competitive player at high school, college, or club level
casual summer league player
coach, organizer, or former player
More information on the forums can be found on the UPA web page: <http://
www2.upa.org/upa/strategicplanning>
Thanks for your time, and looking forward to hearing from some of you.
When you reply, please remind me as to which of the above categorie(s)
you fit in to.

Hi all,
>This is a reminder that if you would like to play in the BUDA Division 2
>tournament on May 26 you need to mail in your check for the entry fee.
I would like to follow up on this...if you are planning on attending the
tournament please send your check to Catherine now, as in today! Any
delay on your part will only make her job more stressful and difficult,
and her 'job' is something she is volunteering to do for you and your team.
If you are not attending the tournament or if you cannot get your check
in the mail today, you should send an email right now to Catherine and
let her know of your plans.
Organizing these tournaments takes a lot of time and effort, let's all
do our part to make it as easy as possible.

This is a reminder that if you would like to play in the BUDA
Division 2 tournament on May 26 you need to mail in your check for the entry
fee. It must be postmarked by Monday,
May 14 in order to guarantee you a spot. As of today, I have
received only one check for the Division 2 tournament, from AmherstMiddle School.
I need the following:
- A check for the tournament for $25 made out to BUDA
- The BUDA waivers for all members of your team if you have
not already sent/faxed them in.
This must be sent to: BUDA, 31 Willow Street, Concord,
MA01742.
At the moment, I am more interested in the check. If you are still
collecting waivers, continue to do so (I’d rather get a full set than
have to deal with lots of stragglers) but go
ahead and send the check.
There has been confusion about the day/s the tournament will
be happening, sorry for the lack of clarity. The tournament is scheduled
for Saturday, May 26. We opened up the option of a second day in order to
be able to accommodate all the teams that expressed an initial interest in
playing. However, if the tournament is not full (18 teams) by the time the
deadline has passed, we will be running on Saturday only.
Thanks,
Catherine Greenwald

Hello,
First, apologies if you get this message twice – I'm sending it to
multiple lists to make sure everyone sees it.
At the moment, we have a lot of teams interested in playing Memorial
Day weekend. I have received the following responses:
Saturday only: Souhegan, JEA, Four Rivers, Bedford, BC High, ARMS,
Amherst JV-B, Quabbin, Londonderry, Andover JV-A, Andover JV-B,
Acton-Boxborough, Concord-Carlisle, Belmont. Maybe - Hartsbrook
Either day: Needham B, Abington, Newton South, Weston, Holliston,
Postsmouth, Newburyport, Ashland
Sunday only: Newton-North B, BU Academy
This means that at the moment we have slightly too many to limit it to
just Saturday if we want to give everyone a chance to play. However,
now I'm asking for a hard commitment, in the form of money, which may
affect our numbers. FYI, teams that have indicated either day (thank
you!) will probably be playing Sunday unless we have 4-5 teams from
the above list drop out. Sunday only teams – if you are still
interested, please send me a check and I'll just tear it up if we end
up playing only on Saturday.
I need the following:
- A check for the tournament for $25 made out to BUDA
- The BUDA waivers for all members of your team. I have only received
packets from Belmont and Andover so far. If you have faxed them
already, great – otherwise mail them with the check.
This must be sent to: BUDA, 31 Willow Street, Concord, MA 01742. IT
MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MONDAY MAY 14 in order for you to be entered in
the tournament.
I hope to see as many of you as possible that weekend. If you have
any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks,
Catherine Greenwald

Dates have been set for this summer's Playright Ultimate Clinics in
Concord, MA. The high school session will happen June 25-29,
9:00-1:00. In the camp we break down skills, work out different
aspects of strategy, and play a lot! We tailor our content to all
levels; this clinic is particularly great for B team players getting
ready to step up to the A team, or experienced A team players
preparing to take on leadership roles on their teams. Regardless of
background, players take away solid skills and a more thorough
understanding of the game.
The middle school session takes place July 16-20, 9:00-12:00. This a
fun clinic geared to all kinds of disc games but of course featuring a
lot of Ultimate!
For more information see the clinic website, www.playrightultimate.com

The 2007 VT State Champs is a UPA
sanctioned event. This means:
1) Every participating player must be a member of the UPA, or pay a one-time
event fee. For information on how to join the UPA, visit this page. Youth
membership costs $20 per year. The one-time event fee is $5.
2) All players must have a waiver
on file with the UPA.
3) Every adult officially involved with the team must have a chaperone
waiver
on file with the UPA. All teams are required to have at least one adult
chaperone, age 25 or older, with them at all times. It is strongly recommended
that each team bring at least two chaperones.
4) A medical
authorization form
needs to be completed for each player. Each coach needs to have these
forms on hand for the duration of the tournament. These forms will be
checked at the captain's meeting on Saturday morning. These forms are
an absolute requirement.
You MUST
bring them. DO NOT
send them to the UPA.
5) All teams MUST
submit their roster to the UPA by Friday,
May 18th. There are three ways to submit a roster:
a) Print out the
PDF
version of the roster, complete it manually and mail it to
the UPA.
b) Open the Excel
version of the roster, complete it electronically and email
it to the UPA.
c) Use the online
rostering system
to submit your roster online. Player's names and UPA ID#'s
are
required to do this. The 2007
VT Champs
is now ACTIVE in the UPA's online rostering system.
6) Every player that pays the one-time event fee instead of joining the
UPA must submit one-time
event & waiver form to the UPA.
Event materials (waivers, chaperone forms, one-time event forms,
rosters) should be sent to:
Rosters can be emailed to: Melanie Byrd (Melanie at hq.upa.org)
A registration checklist can be printed off at this
page. The UPA's outline of the entire process can be found right
here. Note:
Even though the UPA allows for materials to be submitted to the UPA up
until 3 days before the event, I am
requiring all materials to be submitted by May 18th. Start this
process now. I highly recommend using the online rostering system. It's
ridiculously easy to use and is super helpful if you're participating
in
multiple UPA sanctioned events during the year since it allows you to
duplicate rosters with one click. If you're not going to use
the
online rostering system, you MUST
submit your rosters directly to the UPA, NOT to me. Also, please keep
in mind that rosters need to be at the UPA by Friday, May 18th at the
absolute latest. On Monday, May 21st I am going to get a roster
master list from the UPA. Only
players on that master list will be allowed to play in the tournament. This is a firm deadline,
so please, please, please get all of your paperwork in to the UPA as
soon as possible.
If you have any questions at all about the process, please don't
hesitate to call (802.748.9857) or email (jseamon at gmail dot com) me.
Registration will be closing this weekend for the spring season of the
BUDA High School Ultimate League. Please sign up now if you intend to
play. Check the website (www.buda.org/hs) for details and other new
features that have been added recently.
Thanks,
