The first turn off the pavement onto a snow covered track was quite
treacherous. It looks to me that it was the VERGE Series leader Pascal
Bussieres who was the first rider to slip and fall. He got up quickly,
but could not regain the lead group and would eventually finish in 18th
place. Christopher Case (U. of Texas) had a strong finish and soloed in
to win the race.

(gawd) If you need a pass and you weren't quick enough to get one before they're
all gone, your loss. If there's someone willing to sell one, you'll need to pay
for it and the only question will be how much. If you're not willing to pay more
than the face value, again, your loss. And if the case exists where some dipshit
thinks he can make a few bucks on it but no one is willing to pay extra, that's
his loss. Law of supply and demand, free market, yadayadayada.

And how does any of this rise to the level of fraud? because you didn't come
down in the car you said you would? That's not fraud. Buying a pass then
realizing you can't make it so you sell it to some else? that's not fraud
either. Fraud would be counterfitting passes.

There's a reason the state issues handicapped placards to hang from your rear
view mirror. It's specifically to allow transfers between vehicles. While that
system is certainly open to abuse - using the placard when you're not
transferring handicapped individuals - what sort of abuse could the natz
promotoers possibly be concerned about? a specator with no 'cross bike?

Actually, it's more a case of minimizing the scalping and reselling of
parking passes.

It looks like the final decision is going to be that we're going allow each
pass to be transferred between 2 vehicles, and information about those
vehicles will have to be provided at registration, and included on the pass.
This way we can allow for the kind of fair use Richard was asking for, but
still prevent fraud.

Course is not open between races, as I mentioned. Only during designated
open course time.

There is a link from the bikereg page to the racer info, and then the
parking policy from there.

I agree, it doesn't say anything about whether or not you can transfer
parking passes either way.

That doesn't mean I can change it, but again, I've inquired.

This is a trick question.

The final USGP weekend in CA were both C1 races. Horner was 11th on Sunday,
so he has 8 UCI points, and will get staged accordingly.

We should have no problem using the points that are published on Monday,
after Sunday's World Cup, and including the weekend's points.

This of course makes it crucial that the organizers of the weekends' races
are getting their results to the UCI immediately after their event. That's
SOP for the Verge Series races, so we should be ok. The race in KS is on
Saturday, so they should be OK as well.

I don't see us using Friday's update since numbers will already be assigned
and picked up. That's ok, though, since I don't think even Jonathan and and
Ryan are racing Thursday and then coming back. Even if I'm wrong, it only
impacts 2 people, and it's the least harm we can do.

So, expect the points to reflect Monday's update on the UCI web site.

A question about UCI rank for our natz...

There are World Cup races on Dec 4th and Dec 8th.

Does anyone know if the nats will use the Dec 8 UCI WC results for ranking?
or will they only have time to use the Dec 4th results in the name of time?

Basically, the question comes down to will this Sundays local UCI race
results be factored into the natz start grid?

Alan,

The clarification I got was that yes, team sponsors will be allowed on team
pit tents.

However, depending on the volume of team pit tent spaces sold, we may be in
a situation where teams will have to break their tents down when their team
riders are not racing. We won't be able to make that decision until Monday.

I will reflect that in the rider bible, and the web site will be edited to
match.

All,

I've uploaded a DRAFT of the nationals rider bible to the group web site.

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/necyclocross/files/

I'm asking any of you who have the time to read it over, and e-mail any
questions you think it raises that need clarification.

I've been working on this for about the past month, collecting questions
from various lists, and clarifying items that are on the web site. Once this
draft is approved, conflicting information from the web site will be updated
to match.

The two main items that are being reviewed right now are sponsor logos on
team pit tents, and transfer of team parking passes between vehicles.

One item included, and which will receive its own press release, is
information about the infield ticketing which has gotten some attention here
on the list previously.

Anything else, please direct your questions to me. I'm not looking to start
debates; I'm specifically trying to pre-empt questions and confusion.

If you have the time to offer feedback, I appreciate it.

Again, this is a DRAFT, and not the official race bible yet.

Thanks. That is how I interpreted things. It would be helpful, I think, to
have a penalty for doing so stated up front. I.e., somewhere in the racer
section, or final edition of the bible. Otherwise, it's not fair to people
who get up at 0:dark:30 to be there in time to pre-ride at 8am.

Relegation to the back row? Disqualification?

That's what it means, yes.

With the large field sizes, there will likely be very little time between
races to squeeze a lap in. Additionally, since this is obviously an
important race, it's also important to make sure riders aren't on the course
at all while other riders are finishing.

Normally we allow riders to get on the course as soon as the winner from the
previous race has 'crossed the line, provided the last rider on the course
is not passed by riders warming up. We won't be able to do that here.

Am I correct in my understanding that there won't be any pre-riding between
races except as posted "Course Open"?

[I.e., if I race at 11am and want to pre-ride, I need to be there for the
8am open course, correct? If that is the case, then I need to be there 3
hours early, and fight with Boston commuter traffic. If I could ride after
the ends of the previous race or two, then I would not. (By I, I mean me,
and most everyone else coming from the northeast.)]

While we are on the subject of the rules and regs at nationals, what exactly
constitutes a "plain" tent in the team pit area? Our tents have our logo
screened on the top, is that allowed?

There is a link from the bikereg page to the racer info, and then the
parking policy from there.

I agree, it doesn't say anything about whether or not you can transfer
parking passes either way.

That doesn't mean I can change it, but again, I've inquired.

thanks.
there is/was nothing on the bikereg signup about
this parking conundrum. i hope they can see the
rationale in a guy securing a block of spaces for
his own team. heck - we don't even yet know which
3 vehicles we will use, much less if the same ones
will be used each of the 3 days.

Yes, you can get your number at the venue on Sunday. Number pick-up will end
30 minutes before your start. The rider bible with a great deal of updated
info should be posted by tomorrow. I'm hoping the final draft will be
approved today. In the meantime, I should be able to answer a lot more
questions then I was able to previously.

As for the parking regulations, not this close to the event, I can't.

I wasn't part of the original conversation or decision making process, but
my understanding is that they wanted to prevent people from passing the same
parking pass among different people.

I will inquire.

i race sunday in the 50+.
i can get my number at the venue, right?

re the parking: i am miffed. i reserved 3 spaces so
that my team "always" has a place to park. i don't
think it's fair that it has to be the same car all
three days in each of the same 3 spots. can you
get that changed so that it's more equitable?

thanks!

You can pick your number up at the venue, but you can not register at the
venue, except on Sunday only, for the non-championship events.

If you have a reserved parking pass, you won't be able to transfer it
between vehicles, but it does reserve a set space, based on the order you
purchased it in, and you will have the same space all weekend.
