RE: [necyclocross] Typical Beginner Question

Redline and Fuji will round out the list of typical entry level complete
bikes in the $1000-$1200 new list price range.

You could also build up a Surly Cross check or check out ebay for left over
/ lightly used bikes.

I agree, the Lemond Poprad is a good choice for a race worthy starter bike.
The Kona Jake the Snake is another good choice in the same price range,
about $1100. Component spec is basically the same as the Poprad (Shimano
105), the biggest difference is frame material. The Jake is Easton aluminum
tubing and the Poprad is True Temper steel. Both good tubesets, just
different ride characteristics.

basically a good frame with cheaper components. The components are good
enough for your first year racing, and the frame will certainly last you
much longer. I've had a Poprad as a spare bike since 2001 and it's held up
well despite seeing a lot of use. The complete bike is probably on the cheap
side of intermediate - it looks like about $1100. It's probably not worth
spending much more on a bike with better componentry until you're no longer
crashing into barriers. ;-)

a complete bike. There are certainly a lot of Redlines out there.
