Youth Bicycle Races Return to Pittsfield Common

PITTSFIELD, MA - June 7, 2003 - The Berkshire Cycling Association
announces its fifth annual Youth Bike Race Series, beginning on June 19th
and held at the Common on First Street in Pittsfield. The seven week
Thursday night series is an informal and fun introduction to bicycle
racing for ages 5-12. The races take place on a grass and pavement
circuit. The age divisions are 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Registration
opens at 5:30, and racing starts at 6:30. Races are free of charge.

Any type of bicycle may be used, but it must be in good working order.
Bicycle helmets are required and some are available to be borrowed.

The course is a fast, flat circuit around the Common that allows viewing
of the entire race. Races are short multi-lapped events, typically less
than five minutes long, to encourage beginners and create exciting
finishes.

The series concludes on July 31 with a Championship Race. Placers will
receive medals and all participants will be entered in a raffle for a new
bicycle. Various other participant prizes will be offered as they become
available. Contact Michael Ward at 413-499-0462 for more information or
to donate prizes.
