FW: [MABRA-USCF] So you want to be a Bike Race Official?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1196 of 1526 |

TO: NCVC Junior Parents

Folks, This is a good way to learn the innards of bike racing, and to serve our community.  I earned my license and served as an official in years past.  It’s another great group of folks to be involved with.

If you are interested, as noted below, please call Jim Patton.  Thank you,

Jim Wilson

Subject: [MABRA-USCF] So you want to be a Bike Race Official?

I hope you have all recovered from the first calorie overload of the holiday season.  While I know you are all busy, the office parties and the holiday community functions are fantastic opportunities to recruit new officials.  Sorry, but we do need reinforcements every year — without new people, our numbers become critically low and the number of events could suffer.

Who do we need?  We need people who are interested in the sport and willing to send time helping us sustain growth.  They don’t have to be former or current racers, but that knowledge helps.

What do they need to do to become an official?  Study some material and attend a one day clinic.  Our MABRA clinic is scheduled for February 7 in the Odenton Library, Odenton, MD.

What does it cost to become a race official?  The clinic is free and while there is a $35 license fee, MABRA will cover this cost for new officials — net cost is the candidates time.

Are officials paid? Yes we are, but don’t give up our day job.  The “pay” is low, but we’re fun people to work with :)

When you find a candidate, have them contact Kevin, Steve or myself and we’ll provide the additional details and help them with study materials.

Thanks, we really appreciate your help.  And have a GREAT Holiday period.

Jim
