Group Picture on Bike Inspection Day
All
I guess the "missing gene" is kicking in again. Last time we went
though bike inspection it was like herding cats on cat nip with a mouse loose
in the room. The bike inspection is nothing but organized chaos. The times are
suggestions, and the French treat these suggestions as nothing more than just
that. Plus all the other riders that will be there who have different concepts
of time than the French or those so obsessed with the time of day as the
Americans. I recommend that each rider show up when they can (earlier is
better) and get in que (this is something the French want you to experience)
then wait. Do not wait till your alloted hour or you may find that you might
have to wait in que for a very long time.
When Cyndy & I did PBP in 03 we missed our scheduled bike inspection by two
days, thanks to a power outage on the east coast. When we went through the
inspection the official didn't even look at the time we were scheduled, he just
passed us through and let us stand in que.
If you want to do a group photo lets try to arrange a time after we all go
through the inspection, and since you have mentioned that the majority is
scheduled for mid afternoon lets shoot for a 1:00 meeting, this will allow
laggards to arrive & get there bikes inspected, and those smart enough to
go through early some time in town scouting out the local Carrefour
(supermarket) or finding a local boulangerie for some fresh baguettes or
pastries.
As for another thought how about we try to get together for dinner some time
while there. Cyndy & I have found that a restaurant named "Pizza
Pino" is very good and the servers do speak some English, plus with my
basic level of French I am certain that we could get a good bottle of vinegar
to go with dinner :)

Great to hear Gilbert will be there too. It's probably his "fault"
that
a lot of us are putting ourselves through this madness.

23--Ancien Gilbert Anderson is going too! Not riding PBP, but
joining
the festivities.
Photos avec velos, or non?
There may be several who are not on this yahoo group, e.g. Steve
Andreas?

There are 21 North Carolinians going to
Himstedt as an honorary Tarheel.

I was thinking it would be nice to have a group photo, but
when? Trying
to get us all together on Monday evening will probably be like finding
22 needles in a haystack of 4500 straws.
On Sunday, Our bike inspection times are all over the map from 0900
until 1430. Most of us (16 out of 22) have times after 1200
midi. So I
propose we meet at the main entrance to the Gymnase des Droits de
l'Homme at 1145 and have a quick photo. Any other
suggestions? Anyone
else interested in a group picture?
