Hey all..
With Alan's 200k just a few weeks away, I've run into a dilemma.
There are two bikes I can choose to ride towards my goal of a
successful P-B-P. One is an aluminum racer that's admittedly too
small but I've ridden it exclusively for the last 12,000 miles and
have no comfort issues (though I've never ridden more than 130 miles
on it at one time.) The other bike is a seldom-used steel frame that
I set up using my measurements from the racer. The steel frame is
supposedly "best" for me fit-wise but after riding it this weekend my
lower back is giving me problems off the bike. On the bike, I have no
back pain but I do feel a significant loss of power compared to
my "usual" position. It feels like I'm starting over in my training.
What would you veterans do? Risk messing up months of preparation and
physical well-being for the steel frame that could be best long-term,
or "go with what I know"- stick with a too small racing bike not
intended for brevets?
Would very much appreciate your opinions! Thanks- Branson
