I hope all have fared OK after Gustav.  If anybody is in need, please let it be known and help will be on its way.

In the meantime, how about a little R&R via a ride.  We will leave the Marketplace at 7:30 AM Saturday for a ride of about 30 miles.  Commitments at noon restrict our ride time.  May plan to ride Sunday morning also.  Route TBD, pace 16-18mph avg.

Sorry for the late post.

I communicated with Judy Couvillion today and she forwarded this letter regarding the Tour de Tangipahoa:

Link to the event application:  http://kiwanis.i-55.com/tour.html

We trust that all of our loyal riders have weathered Hurricane Gustav and that all is now well with all of you.  As of Sunday, September 7, the Hammond Kiwanis Club is still planning to hold the 17th Annual Tour de Tangipahoa on Saturday, September 20, 2008.  We are sending this message to assure those who have pre-registered and potential riders that the course is in excellent shape and ready for your cycling pleasure.  Three of our members covered the entire route today (Sunday) and noted that the roads are in remarkably good shape and are free of any storm debris.

Because Gustav disrupted the lives of all of us we have decided to extend the pre-registration period.  Potential riders who have not yet registered can do so at the $30 rate if your registration packet is postmarked no later than SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2008.  This will give us sufficient time to prepare “goody bags” for the pre-registered riders.  Those not registered by that date should plan to register on-site.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, September 20, and anticipate that everyone will have a great ride.  Should Hurricane Ike disrupt our planned event, we will inform you as quickly as possible.

Stink removal remedy--- sprinkle borax into shoes, stuff with arm and hammer vanilla/ lilac dryer sheets (or whatever scent you like, I cant guarantee the results though) and leave it for a few days.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

We are playing a wait and see game on the weather and riding tomorrow.  If it is not raining, we will be at the Marketplace at 8am.  It will probably rain, and my shoes will probably get wet again, and the cycle will start again.  Also, it will be windy.

Great article in the paper Sunday.  I was so glad to see your two smiling faces when I opened the paper Sunday morning.
As for the shoes, I doubt Allen fooled anyone with trying to pass it off on you.  Ha!  I bet you got more responses than you thought you would.  Jordan has nasty, wet shoes from football all the time. We have a special place designated for them......right by an open window in the laundry room.  I feel your pain.
I am slowly recuiperating. I have started to run walk a little. The PT says I have to strengthen extension muscles in my back and they are having to be retrained. Since biking keeps me in a bent and flexed position, it may be a while before I can bike.
Hope all is well with you and yours.

We had a nice Tuesday evening ride yesterday except for one thing, not many people were there!  I actually got a little cool, but I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to cool weather.  I was actually surprised that a bunch of people didn’t come out for the nice temperature.  We’re running out of daylight, so get some rides in soon while the weather’s nice and we’ve still got time.  It’ll be Winter soon.

On another note, would anyone be interested in looking into building Mountain Bike trails at the State Park?  There’s lots of good ground and terrain out there, and it’s so much closer than Clear Springs.  I just about don’t ride my MTB anymore because it’s so far to go to Clear Springs, and I don’t think Duncan Park is really long enough.  Any ideas?

Tommy G says the Duncan park trails can be expanded.  Maybe worth while.  Neil Hays the current manager and the Natchez State Park seemed open to possible trail development.  Traffic in the park helps his numbers.  Chris T talked to Neil more than I and also to Tommy S about use of some serious trailblazing equipment.  Sounds like a need a mountain bike.

Actually debated doing the Tuesday ride.. Hadn't been on my bike in month of Sundays and just let the time get away from me... Curtis is right in the fact that the weather was perfect and these nice evenings will not last long... We all better take advantage of them....

In speaking with Neal Hays over the LAMBRA Championship that we put on last summer, He was very helpful and accommodating of everything we needed to do.. .As far as the State Park Mtn Biking goes, most of the area is leased out to hunters,,, and hunting and mountain biking just don't seem to work that well,, however hunting season doesn't last all year and maybe we could work something out...

There is an area on the front gate side of the park that isn't hunted at all... It is bordered by Wick-cliff rd, the old campgrounds, and State Park Rd.. Need to get a topo map of the area and look at actual size and the lay of the land..

Might be a good time to pursue at least getting our foot in the proverbial door by putting in some type of trail on the area that isn't being used... I wonder of IMBA would be of any help in get something started this winter... after the SNAKES and leaves go into hiding...

What about to the east of the entrance?  Down Wickliff road to the creek.  Is that hunted?  It’s a pretty big area.

Yes , I have been putting in around 15hrs a week on the road getting ready for the 24 and Texas mt bike marathons and I'm so ready to ride my mt bike! so for now, if we want to ride trails you will have to travel.
