We are riding Saturday morning.  Leaving the Marketplace at 7:30am.  Beth is trying out a road bike, so our pace may be a little slower as she gets used to it.

Also, we will leave for Baton Rouge around 2pm for dinner and track races.

Perkins Rd, click here for the map. Click here for info on the
races. I believe admission is free. The track is near shopping and
restaraunts on Bluebonnet and Seigen lane; Copeland's Cheesecake

Cliff,
We usually leave from the Marketplace Cafe at 7:30 AM on Saturday's.  Pace and distance will depend on group.

Also, Saturday night is the track race in Baton Rouge.  I assume Tommy S. is still planning to race.  We are planning to go for dinner before and then the races 6-10pm.  If anybody is interested in tagging along or meeting up, let me know.  The velodrome is on Perkins Rd, click here for the map.  Click here for info on the races.  I believe admission is free.  The track is near shopping and restaraunts on Bluebonnet and Seigen lane; Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro, Little Sciliy, Joe's Crab Shack, etc...  According to the website, this is the final race of the season.

The warm up starts at 6:00 PM, leaving from the Armory.  The warm up is the 8 miles out to the Hwy 61 overpass.  Time trialers will then start in 30 second intervals from the Hwy 61 overpass on a specific expansion gap in the road.  They will time trial all the way in (south) to the last expansion gap on the bridge after mile marker 1.

The clock operator will send everyone off in 30 second intervals and then drive in to the finish, with the clock and record the time as they arrive.

Anyone that does not want to time trial is more than welcome to ride out with the group and ride in at your on pace.  Please be mindful and aware of those time trialing in and everybody be especially careful and mindful of traffic on on the Hwy 61 overpass.  If you piss off a motorist, you are endangering all cyclists not just yourself.
Thanks,
Allen R.

Our next club meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 7 at 6:30 pm.  Originally, we were going to hold the meeting at the Bike Shop.  However, to make it easier to hold the meeting, we are changing the location.

The meeting will be held at the same time in the Community Room at Delta Bank in Vidalia.  Delta Bank is located at 1617 Carter St. (main highway) in Vidalia.  For reference purposes, the Bank is on the right before you get to Vidalia Market.  Park on either the east (right) side of the building or in front of the building.  Enter through the double doors on the east (right) side of the building.  For those of you who are directionally challenged, that would be the doors that face Natchez!

Water and soft drinks will be provided.  See you Monday, August 7 at 6:30 pm.  If you have a question or need better directions, call or email Cliff Merritt (318-336-5251;601-807-0707; email cmerritt@...).

North MS Rails to Trails

There is a new rails-to-trails being developed in north Miss. but they
need everyone's letter of support. Only Pontotoc County Supervisors
have not committed to the project. It will run from Houston to New
Albany which is about 50 miles long through some of Mississippi' s most
beautiful land. I encourage everyone to go to their website at
http://www.tanglefo ottrail.org/ index.html and print a letter of
support and mail it to them. The more support, the more likely it
will become reality. I know the Long Leaf Trace is used by many and
this will give us another option. There are several campgrounds
nearby and the Natchez trace is close also. If you know of any riders
in this area, contact them and be sure they know about it too.
