So 2002-03 is in the books now. What do you think is in store for
next season? Will we attempt to make any progress at all over the
summer?
Thinking realistically, I predict no moves that will lead to any
real improvement. In fact, I'm expecting a slight drop in the
standings. We have no more Dunhams to dump and provide a short-lived
boost to the backup goalie, so all 4 quarters of next year's season
will probably resemble the first and last of this year.
Management will justify this by continually quoting, "Just wait till
next year when we get a new collective bargaining agreement." Then
they will pray that NFL socialism will become the new model for the
NHL so they can raid Toronto and New York bank accounts and buy some
(presumably cheaper) talent for whatever portion of the 2004-05
season the players' strike will allow.
Of course, it could be a lot better! Anaheim made it to the Cup
finals, after all. -NF
