I have a new Adult Men's softball team and I am looking for two

I have a Nashville Sounds Souvenir Program with Jeff Treadway, Leo
Garcia and Chris Sabo on the front cover. It is in Nr-Mt
condition. The yearbook has been kept in a plastic magazine
sleeve. I will trade this for some Peyton Manning Football cards.
If interested, e-mail me direct. Thanks, Brian
Hi, fellow Sounds fans. I've been going to Greer since moving to
Nashville in 1981, and there's no better place to be.
That said, it's not quite perfect. I've found myself jotting down
notes at games this year, things like "who's pitching???", to sort of
chronicle the small gripes I have about the Sounds experience. (That
particular one refers, of course, to the Greer habit of putting the
starting pitcher's name on the scoreboard ONCE - before the game even
starts, when many fans are otherwise occupied with food procurement,
kids, restrooms, and conversation. Given that the DH prevents the
pitcher from ever batting, most games he's a mystery man. Not good.)
There are many other annoyances that if fixed would improve the
experience. Country wannabes with twelve-minute versions of the
anthem, for instance. (THAT'S who oughta get put in the padded sumo
suit.) The ultimate purpose in keeping track of this stuff is to
gather a bunch of it and approach the management with some Official
Heartfelt Caring Fan Input, to maybe help improve something we care
about and support.
So, what about it? You've been there. What bugs you? What do you
like? What do you miss? What do you want? Softee balls for everyone?
Prizes for great fan catches in the stands? Dinner with Ozzie (you
won't have to fight me for it).
Can we change things for the even better? Damn straight. Do what fans
do best. Holler.

Subject: free internet access places
Here are some sites with free internet access.
It seems a new one pops up every day. These are the ones I know about.
My favorite one is <http://freei.net>. The ad bar is not as
obstrusive as others on the browser. It is the easiest one
to use, and the number has NEVER been busy.
Both <http://bluelight.com and <http://netzero.com>
offer service, but I don't have a local access number
in Jackson TN, but maybe in your area there is one.
Blue light is owned and operated by K-Mart and K-Mart
stores are supposed to have the disc, I haven't see
one. The download for many of these (freei, bluelight
, netzero) is about 30-40 minutes. I like both, but
I need a local number to use either to make it effective.
Both <http://altavista.com> and <http://www.excite.com>
search engines are offering free internet access. In
less than a month, alta vista has had 8 million sign up
making it the third largest access provider.
BOTH alta vista and excite are set up and operated by
<http://1stup.com>, a wholesale provider of service to
smaller ppp, isp, and pop servers. The have other
branded free access such as <http://yellowstone.com>,
<http://Buzzlink.com>, http://www.ktvb.com/free
(an Idaho TV station), <www.wjla.com> (a DC/Tidewater
area station), http://seniors.com> and http://picosito.com.
These are all "cobranded" free access sites that allow download
and use of strategic local telephone numbers to access internet.
Very little time is needed to download. All are run by 1stup,
but are seperate, so you could have all setup with service.
Its kinda like a company can offer service on its web site for
free internet. One thing I notice, there is a meter on the side
of the ad window, that shows a meter. The meter will soon
require you to connect with an ad in \order to maintain a
connection. Its not enforced -yet-, but will be.
Connecting the ad will recharge the connection to
continue operating..otherwise it is terminated.
There are others www.1stup.com, www.address.com,
www.3web.net, www.freensafe.com, www.ifreedom.com,
www.internet4free.com, but due to various reason
(phone access, problems downloading, odd browser, incompatability,
and hidden charges... I havent used them.
One option I didn't mention that i use is http://www.juno.com.
It is a very food e-mail download service, but a "clunky"
feeling free internet service and browser with constant
notices about add on services "delux" or "gold" or "silver"
level that cost. A free service that can have a sneaky cost
pop up. It is the one that can be used in all areas, which
makes it popular in rural areas. I use it, but I get tired
of cutting thuough the pop up options that spring up on the screen.
More are coming out, and the access numbers to all providers
increase daily.
Let me know if any of this helps.

Subject: Pirates Top Ten Prospects
The Sounds would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing you this spring at Greer Stadium. Because it is never
too early to be talking baseball, here is an article from Baseball America about
the top 10 prospects in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. As you know, the
Pirates are the Sounds major league affiliate.

While watching the AA West Tenn D-Jaxx, AAA Memphis Redbirds, and AAA
Nashville Sounds this year, I have noticed a change in
the way many teams use the AA level farm team. The old tried and true
spend a year or two in each level and move up to the next level seems to
be changed.
The cubs promoted many West Tenn players either with a brief stop at AAA
or without a stop at AAA.
It appears that AA level develops young players, while the AAA Is used
for veteran and free agents players with some major league experience.
The other thing I have noticed is that many college players start in An
advanced A or AA -rather than a short A or rookie league team. It
seems that the improved quality of college baseball has subbed for a
rung or two of the minor system.
My question is, are we rushing players??? Are teams holding on to
specific role players in AAA too long. SHould we look at tw or three
paths for players: one for vets, one for college players, and one for
rookies???

West Tenn won in a very close game over Chattanooga 3-2 for the first
playoff win in the Jackson history and the first since 1996 when the team
was known as Memphis Chicks.
Chatanooga scored first on a single and two throwing errors by the Jaxxs.
Tom Nevers scored the run.
Jaxx's Angelo Encarnacion hit a homer in the 5th scoring Gazarek (who hit a
double).
Miller hit a run scoring single in the 6th scoring Tom Nevers for the
L'outs
West Tenn's Almarzar singled move to second on a walk Pinch runner
Franklin Fone moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on another
wild pitch.
Attendance: 2,184
Other Southern News, Orlando beat Jacksonville in a one game playoff for
second half title 5-4 Tuesday and then beat Knoxville 9-2 for the East
Friday's game at Chattanooga may be the last in
Engel as home to the Lookouts, IF West Tenn continues to win.
Former Diamond Jaxx Brian McNicol lost the second game
of the Cubs doubleheader with the Reds. Other former Jaxxs Chad Meyers,
Rosie Brown, and Jose Nieves. all went hitless.
I really never understood the playoff formula with
all the tie breaker playoff games Huntsville/West Tenn first half and
Jaxsonville/Orlando second half. I had this picture there were tiebreaker
rules, but the playoffs game life to the races.
Total first and second half
East
Total
Suns 75-66
Smokeys 71-69
Rays 70-68
Mudcats 60-78
Braves 58-80
West
D'Jaxxs 84-57
L'outs 78-62
Barons 73-67
BayBears 66-73
Stars 64-77
The Barons got left out in the cold with a record
better than Knox or Orlando. The west is the stronger of the two
divisions. Huntsville had the bottom fall out after tieing the
first half with 38 wins they proceeded to only win 28 games in the
second half.

Hi all,
Check out the article on this page:
http://www.tennessean.com/sii/99/06/01/sounds01.shtml
The part I'm interested in is this part regarding Ivan Cruz:
- The first baseman hit a grand slam onto Chestnut Street as the Sounds
rebounded from their second shutout of the season with a 13-3 victory over
Tucson.
- Two at-bats later, he was pinch-hit for by Chris Tremie. Then in a
departure from form, Cruz went to talk to teammates in the bullpen. Those
events led several observers to speculate that Cruz was being called up by
the parent Pittsburgh Pirates or was involved in some other transaction.
I can't see Cruz coming to the Bucs. Has anyone heard anything? Anyone in
Nashville?

The Nashville Sounds have a new web site,
www.nashvillesounds.com
There web site has a team operated list as well. This was not
avaliable as recently as one week ago, which is why I started mine.
I did e-mail them prior to starting this list, but got no response.
For the last couple of years, the sounds have operated on outside
ownership, the same group that operates the Kane County Cougars.
When a new ownership group comes in, they have to learn the trade
area. I think they have done a remarkable job RE-MARKETING
and RE-IDENTIFYING the team and its fan base.
I am just a minor league baseball fan who attends Sounds games.
I hope the list developd into a meaningful discussion of minor ball,
pirates farm hands, and the Sounds.

Hi all,
I subscribe to the Pirates mailing list, and one of the subscribers is Mike
Gordon, who's a public relations guy for the Bucs. Has the owner of this
list contacted the Sounds about getting someone from the team to subscribe?
It would be nice to get some inside info. Especially with the apparent lack
of coverage on the 'Net.

The Nashville Sounds get very little press in Nashville,
now that they have to fight with the Predators, Titans,

I think former Nashville players, other minor league
teams and Pirate farm teams are very appropriate topics.
I think the "Apple Pie" category opens discussion to other
topics.
Speaking of topics, anybody see a possible exhibition series
developing between Louisvill and Nashville prior to the start of the
season as a charity fundraiser???
Nashville has been a AA or AAA farm team for the Pirates,
White Socks, Reds, and did I leave anybody out?????

I'm very much looking forward to reading and participating in the Sounds
list, but I have one question on the above list of allowable content. Are
we allowed to discuss the Pirates or any other Pirate farm teams? I would
suggest that we be allowed to, but only if it pertains in one way or another
to the Sounds. For example:
Player X is doing really well in AA. Has anyone heard if he'll be promoted
to Nashville?
Or
Player Y is struggling in Pittsburgh. Has anyone heard if he'll be sent
down to Nashville?
That kinda thing.
Thanks much, and I can't wait for the conversation around here to heat up.

Welcome to the SOUNDS discussion LIST.
The Nashville sounds are a AAA Pacific Coast League farm
team of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nashville has had a storied
Baseball history under the SOUNDS banner as both a AA amd AAA
team. We all remember Bye Bye Balboni and other colorful
players that shared their love of the game with us.
The rules of the group are simple. We talk Baseball,
Apple Pie, Nashville, PCL, and the Sounds.
Again welcome to the list.
