We will be doing a ride to Sanibel & Capitiva Island this Sunday
morning (Aug 31st) at 6:00am as part of our Ironman training. We are
meeting at the parking lot of Naples Cyclery in the Pavillion shopping
Center at 5:45am and leaving at 6:00am Sunday morning. The pace will be
a steady, yet comfortable 18 mph pace for those interested in this
endurance ride. Total riding time will be 5.5 hours, so we should be
back by noonish or so. There will be some stops along the way. Total
miles should be around 90-95 miles.

We currently have three people going on the ride and I'm sure there
will be others joining us.

If you are interested or have any questions, please feel free to e-mail
me at wsakamoto@... or call me at (239) 591-1199.

Thanks,

Wayne Sakamoto

With this past weekend's incredible Opening Ceremonies of the 2008
Olympic Games in Beijing, the eyes of the world are now glued to
Michael Phelps attempt to win eight gold medals at the swimming venue.
He is definitely on track to beating Mark Spitz seven gold medals for
swimming. And twenty four years ago in Los Angeles, it was an exciting
time when the US Swimming Team did an exceptional job during many of
the swimming competitions at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. My
assignment was Photo & Press Marshall at the Swimming / Diving /
Synchronized Swimming at the USC Olympic Pool. It was one of the
greatest experiences to volunteer at this venue during the Olympics
assisting and coordinating reporters from around the world including
ABC Sports who had the contract for televising the games. The swimming
venue during the first week of the games were definitely the most
exciting place to be since the US Swimming team dominated the pool. The
LA Olympics created swimming sensations such as Rowdy Gaines, Steve
Lundquist, Nancy Hogshead, Mary Meagher, Tracy Caulkins…and yes, the
young Dara Torres. It will be exciting to see if Dara Torres can pull
off the gold as one of the oldest athletes (at age 41) on this year's
US Olympic Team. Stay tuned.

This is a reminder that a group of us meet every Friday at 6p.m. in
front of the Naples Beach Club Hotel for an open water swim and/or
run. The swim is typically a mile (optional) depending on the
conditions and how everyone is feeling. Feel free to bring a beach
chair and cooler and stay to watch the sunset. This is a great way to
wind down from the
week and relax with fellow triathletes. I hope to see you tomorrow!

just wanted to let you know that Sean (the firefighter) from Venice
that rode with a couple of times in the cape was hit coming home from
a group ride in Venice by an older driver. He has cracked ribs and a
bruised kidney. He is luck because he was able to tuck and roll when
he made impact.

Please Please Please be careful out there. Do not ride with headsets,
listen to the cars if they are coming closer that they should and
remember they can do damage. They dont feel we are to be on hte road.
They will win everything.

Sean will be ok, however is will not be working or riding for a while.
Do your best to watch the traffic and older people. This can happen to
anyone of us!

Safe Riding!

I would like to personally thank each and every one of the
volunteers for their time and support during the Second Annual
Junior Fitness Challenge on Saturday morning. The kids had a blast
and their experiences will be remembered for the rest of their
lives. It took many enthusiastic volunteers to pull together all
that was needed for kids to experience a fun, safe and exciting
race. Thank you for all that you did to make this a wonderful event!

A special thank you goes to Steven Gust, Co- Race Director and NATS
President for all of his help in planning this event. We should also
recognize Steven for his efforts in making it possible to have NATS
shirts available and coordinating the outreach booth at both races
this weekend!

I would also like to specially thank Susan Cone for all of her hard
work in putting together the training program for the kids every
Saturday morning in May:)

is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results."

Good Afternoon,

On Friday evening, May 23rd from 6-9pm, there is a fund-raising buffet style spaghetti dinner at the Estero Elk's Lodge (3231 Coconut Rd) to benefit The Brotherhood Ride.  This event is to raise money for the families of the 9 firefighters killed in a warehouse fire in Charleston SC last June 18th.  Tickets for this event are $15.00/person and festivities that night will also include a silent auction.

On Saturday May 24th, 20 public safety representatives from as far away as Texas and Ohio will come togther at the fire station at Veteran's Park at 9am to begin a 9-day cycling journey to Charleston.  The Ride will culminate in the presentation of funds raised at events like this over the last year to the families of these fallen firefighters.  This will encompass almost 600 miles and entails riding an average of 65 miles a day for each of the 9 days.

Other fund raising opportunities are available if you want to help:

On Friday May 16 from 3pm-6pm, Bad Ass Coffee (1307 3rd St S) will be hosting The Dave Elliott Show.  During Dave's Show, he will be accepting in-person and call-in donations going towards The Brotherhood Ride.

On Monday May 19 from 6pm-close, the Uno's Chicago Grill (just west of Airport on Vanderbilt Beach Rd) will be donating 20% of your check to The Brotherhood Ride.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly or go to our website at:www.thebrotherhoodride.com

Thank you for taking the time to review this e-mail.
We certainly appreciate your support.

Have a Great Day,

Dan McDonald
