The Academy of Knightly Arts Dover, and Jeremy Oneail (sca- Sir
Angus O'Niall) would like to invite anyone who is interested in a
medieval stick fighting program. The program will be based on SCA
fighting though not affiliated with the SCA or under it's auspices.
- For those who do not know, the SCA or Society for Creative
Anachronism is the largest medieval recreation society in the world.
They try to emulate medieval tournament and war fighting using solid
rattan sticks and full force blows. For more information on them

Students will learn basics such as body mechanics, footwork, sword
mechanics and fighting theory. This will be done in a much more
controlled and regulated system than is found at most SCA practices.
In fact you will find this much more like a karate class than a
normal SCA practice.
The plan is to rotate through weapons forms. Notices will go out
when the weapon forms are to switch. We will start with sword and
large shield. Other weapon forms that will be taught are spear, two
swords, greatsword, off hand weapon use, combat archery, sword and
small shield, single sword and polearm.
If you are an SCA fighter, have thought about it or just want
something else that gets you off the couch and sweating, this will
be the class for you!
The first practices will be out of armour. Subsequent ones may
involve it and those that don't have it may borrow some or work on
making their own.

The first practice will take place at 5pm on Sunday the 23rd in
Dover NH, only a short distance from 95 and less than an hour from
Boston.

Classes are $10 a class but package deals will be available and
discussed in class. There will also be a $20 yearly registration for
new students to cover insurance.

You will need to bring workout clothes and indoor shoes. If you do
not have indoor shoes prepare to go shoeless. Also, bring a rattan
SCA style one handed sword. If you don't have one, ones will be
available to borrow.

The success of this class will depend on the participation of
individuals. If there is not enough interest during the first 4
weeks of class, then this program will not happen.

On a side note, after the Stick Fighting Class, there will be a 30
minute conditioning class geared to help the modern medieval warrior
get into shape. The cost for the conditioning class is an additional
$5. After the conditioning class, AKA will be holding their
longsword basics class based on 14th century Italian fighting
doctrines. This class can be added to your evening for only $5
