Group formed to promote Cyclocross in Southeast Michigan
Davisburg, MI - February 9, 2007
With the goal of helping to promote and grow the sport of Cyclocross in Southeast Michigan, the Southeast Michigan Cyclocross Coalition (SEMICXC) has been formed. Organized around promoter, Robert Linden of Tailwind Enterprises and Jeff Noftz of Kinetic Systems in Clarkston, Michigan, SEMICXC is a group of Cyclocross enthusiasts who are committed to growing the sport of Cyclocross!
The initial focus of the group will be to promote the Michigan UCI C2 Cyclocross Double-Header weekend, which is scheduled for September 22nd and 23rd, 2007 in Davisburg, MI. This will be the third consecutive year for the Michigan UCI C2 Cyclocross Double-Header and the SEMICXC group is working on making it better than ever.
Capitalizing on being the first UCI categorized races east of the Mississippi in 2007, it is hoped that East Coast and Midwest based racers will use this event to start their Cyclocross seasons. Additionally, this event will be a perfect opportunity for elite and professional racers to test their legs before traveling out to the “Cross Vegas” Cyclocross race to be held in conjunction with the Interbike Expo on Wednesday, September 26, 2007.
In 2006 the Michigan UCI C2 Cyclocross Double Header drew in competitors from throughout the U.S. and Canada. The race even served as a starting point for up and coming Cyclocross professional, Tristan Schouten (Trek/VW), who capitalized on good performances at this event and others to earn a spot on the 2007 U.S. Cyclocross World Championships team.
