BURNHAM RACING ANNOUNCES SPRING SUPER CRITERIUM
USA CYCLING-SANCTIONED RACE DEBUTS NEAR WISCONSIN-ILLINOIS BORDER ON APRIL 6;
UNIQUE COURSE FEATURES 1.9-MILE CIRCUIT AT BLACKHAWK FARMS RACEWAY
CHICAGO, ILL. – Burnham Racing is proud to announce the inaugural Spring Super Criterium, which will take place at the Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, Ill. on Sunday, April 6, 2008. Placing an emphasis on rider safety and the presentation of a unique racing experience, the Spring Super Criterium will give cyclists an opportunity to compete on the closed-course, 1.9-mile auto-racing track for the first time in the facility's history. Blackhawk Farms is conveniently located just 90 minutes from both Milwaukee and Chicago, and is just one hour from Madison, Wis. The event will be sanctioned by USA Cycling, hosted by Burnham Racing - a non-profit developmental cycling program based in Chicago - and staffed by members of the vitaminwater-
"This event will help fill the need in the cycling community for an early-season, USA Cycling-sanctioned race close to Chicagoland," said Eric Goodwin, President of Burnham Racing. "We're grateful to Ron Ehrenhofer and the staff at Blackhawk Farms for their seamless assistance in providing what will be an amazing venue for a bike race. In addition to a scenic backdrop, the Raceway has many new amenities that competitors will be able to take advantage of."
Racing gets underway with juniors events at 8:15 a.m. and concludes with the Men's Category 1/2/3 race, which begins at 3:55 p.m. Ten total categories will be offered, including multiple women's and masters racing opportunities. In addition to USA Cycling upgrade points, riders will compete for merchandise provided by sponsors such as vitaminwater, Craft and Clif Bar, among others.
"We have structured the day to provide both challenging race distances and opportunities for nearly every category to compete more than once," said Jason Knauff, Event Director for Burnham Racing. "A closed course with smooth surfaces and roads wide enough to fit three race cars, Blackhawk Farms Raceway will be an excellent setting for entry-level racers. At the same time, the track's combination of long straight-aways and sweeping chicanes designed for high speeds should encourage aggressive racing in all of the categories. It's absolutely a course worthy of being labeled a 'super' criterium."
Competitors will need to be licensed members of USA Cycling. Both existing license renewals and one-day licenses will be available at the event. To register online, or for more information on the Burnham Racing Spring Super Criterium, visit www.burnhamracing.
