Just in a case any alehouse people are going to Paris to watch the world
champs next month, below are details of an athletics match that anyone
could take part in. It is actually a friendly fixture of Achilles (joint
Oxbridge team, rah, rah, rah) against Sydney Uni, but guests are welcome. I
doubt an alehouse team could be mustered together to challenge them (even
if combined with Doss and/or Liverpool for a joint Christie team?), but
individuals would be welcome.
As Tipton mentioned yesterday, he and I will be in Paris, but just for the
first weekend, so will have left by the time this match takes place.
(forward to the Whizzkids list as I can't find the address - and anyone
else who may be interested)

ACHILLES v SYDNEY U v OTHERS - Friday 29th August - Le Vesinet, Paris

Please do come, and please spread the word

A number of members will be in Paris to watch the World Championships: so
will a party from Sydney University, and Roger Thorn has now set up a
light-hearted match (hosted by the local club and with events open to all
comers to add depth) which is attracting a fair few additional members for
this event alone.

Members who already hope to be in Paris for the Championships include (in
no particular order): Lucy Hassell, Richard Griffiths; Alex Cooke, Peter
Crawshaw, Kelley Wilder, Jonathan Parker, Gavin Hodgson, Laurence Chandy,
Bethan Hopwell, Adrian Metcalfe Robert Stinson, John Boulter, Alan James,
Caroline Sanderson, Micahel Rush, Stephen Rogers, Phil Tedd, Alisa Wallace,
Alex Rusman, Cassie Beasley, Clare Martin, Clare Ridgley, Glyn Chidlow,
Steve Booth, Richard Oldcorn, Chin Nwokoro, Chris Daniels, Yasser Baki,
Matt Weaver, Paul Willcox

Team manager is Matt Weaver - matt.weaver@... - and his
circular is as follows (apologies if you receive this more than once).

quote

I'm not intending to try to organise any specific transport/accommodation
as many of you will be in Paris anyway for the world champs, and the rest
of you will be arriving & departing at different times and from different
places. So you'll have to sort yourselves out!

Below is a suggested timetable for the match, though take it with a pinch
of salt as it's highly likely to change - the existence of heats may be
unnecessary for example. The match will be a relaxed affair and more of an
open meeting so locals can attend (though I'm sure we can work out some
form of scoring to prove we're better than the Aussies)

11.10 3000m (M&W), High jump(M), Long jump (W), Shot (W)
11.35 100m Hurdles heats (W)
11.50 110m Hurdles heats (M)
12.05 1500m (M&W)
12.20 200m heats (M&W)
2.15 100m heats (M&W), pole vault (M&W)
2.45 400m (M&W), High jump (W), Long jump (M), Shot (M)
3.25 100m hurdles final (W)
3.35 110m Hurdles final (M)
3.55 200m final (M&W)
4.10 100m final (M&W)
4.20 800m (M&W)
4.40 4 x 100m relay (M&W)
5.00 4 x 400m relay (M&W)

Roger Thorn, our man on the ground in Paris, has promised that there will
be a fresh drinks bar available, but that athletes and spectators are
encouraged to bring picnics.

The address of the track is

Stade des Merlettes
Rue des merlettes

And the nearest station is Le Vesinet - le Pecq on RER line A.

You may wish to try to secure yourselves some tickets for the champs - if
so I suggest you try the following website link
http://www.ticketnet.fr/shop/en/edito.asp?page=paris2003saintdenis.htm&idti
er=693970 If not, then Roger has kindly offered the facilities of the
Royal British Legion on Friday night, to watch it on Telly (it's much
better on TV anyway!). The address is : Royal British Legion
8 Rue Boudreau
75008 Paris (near the Opera)

Please let me know if you're coming, and if you need any help with
transport or accommodation.

Look forwards to seeing you there!

Matt

I have a spare ticket for the Sunday morning session of the athletics at
the Commonwealth games (28/07, start 10.00am). Cost £15, events include
decathlon, finish of both marathons, mens 200m heats, 400mH semis, womens
HJ and PV. Reply to me by 4pm today (e-mail or lab number below) if you
want it or call me at my parents from tomorrow (0161 368 8484). Only draw
back is that you have to sit with me and Tippy.

Hi all

For some reason a number of messages are coming through
unreadable for at least some members. I've not got to the
bottom of this but suspect it is to do with messages being
sent in html or at least fancy type faces etc instead of plain
old ascii text. If you have the option please send plain text
so everyone can read your words of wisdom.

Best wishes

Dear All,

I am planning an upgrade to our very ancient website
and would appreciate your input!

So far, I've had the following requests:

* List of all fixtures/events.
* Results list (updatable by club members with the
correct password)
* Registration section which all current/new/VP's can
enter their details through.
* VP's newsletter
* List of training times
* Photo album
* News section which anyone in the club can add
messages to.
* Our own domain name (e.g www.muccc.org.uk) - would
cost around £6/year

The existingwebsite lives at:
http://orgs.man.ac.uk/StudOrgs/athletics/

Please let me know what you all think of the above and
send me anything else you want on there.

Best of luck with the remaining exams.
See you all at Stockport, 6th June.

James.

P.S. Andy, do you need any help with the VP letter?

Any news on the t-shirt design for IOM this year? I realise the front and
colour doesn't need much imagination, but has someone made sure CP hasn't
been left to decide on the comedy logo for the back? (I realise it is a bit
late now though). Also, has anyone considered using a new dri-fit-type
material that doesn't show up all my spilage, not really in the spirit of
things, but a lot easier than me having to learn to drink without dribbling.

I think you should just get rid off muccc and be done with it, How many
people have recieved this message twice? most of the people on muccc I
would guess at. The only people who seem to be on muccc and not alehouse
seem to be a few older present memebers who can't the follow the simple
instructions given to them repeatedly like email to
alehouse-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. etc

ok ceeps how many people are on muccc

a) in total
b) who isn't on the alehouse list

I don't see this should be such a big deal

Anyone who is flying but still hasn't booked note that there
is an escalation of the TGWU dispute at Manchester Airport
and they are planning industrial action on the relevant
Friday through Monday. The management say everything will
be fine and that so far the dispute has only cost one minute
of lateness on one flight in total. The union say they are
escalating and will disrupt travel.

PS we'll have to do something about this three-list situation;
a what goes where protocol perhaps.

Folks,

I'll have to opt out - I'll be going on holiday shortly (hong kong,
australia & singapore) and won't be able to make it.
Hope it's a great laugh and there are a few new traditions born......

Jondom
