Very sorry to hear of both incidents, The knee sounds nasty, I hope he
recovers to full operation before too long. Des it was the Pentlands that
broke my ankle too!

Ouch indeed. Poor chap. Will he cycle again?

Makes my broken leg pale into insignificance. I managed to fall off in the
Pentlands on Saturday morning. Pretty innocuous fall, just toppled over
sideways. Not sure if it was the fact that I couldn't unclip 'til the last
moment or I hit a rock on the landing. Anyway tried to carry on but thought
it was a sprain so decided to head back. Cycled a mile or two back to the
car then drove home. Thought it wasn't too bad but as it was still painful
on Monday, I went to A&E and found it was a broken fibula just above the
ankle. I'd been walking and driving on it all weekend.

In plaster now and will find out on Tuesday if I need a plate, looking at
six weeks in plaster. It's a bummer.

Ooof. Thats awful.

I had a fall on the black 2 weeks ago on a seemingly innocent section of
singletrack. Luckily I only had a few nasty scratches and a bit of blood on my
shin.

I have just ordered some pads.

I feel really sorry for the lad.

Hearing a story like this, it makes me wonder if I should wear my
knee pads even more than I do - like whenever I go out of the flat or
something! I'm really sorry to hear about this and I hope he's up and
about soon.

Ouch! Hope he is able to make a good recovery.

That's why I like to wear just even basic knee protection with me when I throw
myself down the Black - am so wary of my kneecaps! Broken bones I've had and can
deal with, but the knee is something so crucial yet so vulnerable.

I've sent Glenmore an email about the chalets there. Friday night and
Saturday night sounds good.

We could ride somewhere a little closer to home on the way back.

As for planned rides. I have a couple of possibilities in mind.
Perhaps a pub night with some maps might help?

Where's Tom he's not piped up yet?

That sounds like a good possibility. In my one experience of a hostel
I definitely found it warm, and there was a shower - just the one for
all the blokes there, though.

I'm still up for this.

I would prefer not to camp as muddyness and camping is horrible!

If there's a big group we could find a chalet, or there's the Glenmore
youth hostel if there's only a few of us. Also, if we stay at the
glenmore hostel then I think there is a campsite beside that for
anyone keen on camping, or for those in campervans (i.e. Tom).
